Just checking with everybody to see what they think of the new stangs....I got mine tuesday evening and immediately waxed it (was washed) to see what defects in paint and fit I could find. Found 2 bubbles in the paint, the front nose of the bumper was wacked pretty good (in shipment or sitting in michigan) which will be repaired, and the gas cover had a "smudge" on it which will need repainted...The fit of everything else was great and the alignment couldn't be better. Interior looked great (couldn't find anything wrong) and I even checked the stitching in the leather. Runs like a top but the shifter seems a little tight and not as smooth as I expected (have a little toyota corolla for distance driving and it shifts easier)... I basically consider these "normal" and to be somewhat expected problems. What do you think? Should the paint be "perfect"? What have you experienced?

I found a strange looking weld in the engine compartment at the firewall. I would speculate that this is not a machine weld, since it is pretty crooked. It is painted over. I wonder why it is there. Anyone else have something similar ?

It's a bead of sealant/gasket maker, not weld.....does look like it though. I have a cut in the rubber air inlet(Right at the throttle body) Other than that....no faults that I can find. B)

Mine has the same thing on the firewall, looks like a sloppy retro-fit.

Problems I have will my 05.
1. There is weld body sealant on the forward edge of the trunk lid that is visable on top of the lid. It is below the paint creating several large bubbles.
2. I have the upgraded interior. The two dash pieces that cover the passenger air bag are not flush with each other or the dash on the right side wherer they all meet.
3. On deceleration between 40-60 mph the car has a howling/whining noise, probably rear axle defect.

Otherwise car is great.

I have some gear whine and a clunk from the drivetrain...nothing really to complain about.

It has rained every day since I got the car, the dealer did wax it but I have not had a chance to wash or wax it myself...but no obvious paint defects.

The clutch interlock switch went out on day 2 rendering my Mustang inoperable, it had to be towed to dealer and wait for the part to arrive a day later.

Amazing fit and finish for a $25k car.

Howling noises? Clutches causing the car to be towed back to the dealer? And you're calling it a great car?!!

Stop it - you're scaring me!

Yeah, it's amazing what some people will put up with all for the sake of blind devotion to a "name," isn't it?

It's a good rule never to buy any car in its first model year. That's why I'm waiting - see what the overall verdict is from purchasers and the automotive press...let Ford iron out the glitches...let the ridiculous prices come down a little...and get a chance to see what sort of SE models Ford has in store.

in fairness, the interlock switch isn't made by ford, though they have the final responsibility for it's quality. the fit and finish is squarely in ford's lap. one of the posters on another thread reported a rattle in the dash!!
not good. jackg 90seville 95k

Oh, I hate dash rattles. They take the dash out to fix it, guaranteeing that something else starts squeeking later on.

I know! These people are so blinded by the appeal of owning their Mustang that they'll put up with anything!

Yeah, the head gasket blew on day 4 and someone at the factory keyed my car before delivery.

Other than that, it's awesome!

No issues yet, I love this car. Fit and finish are spectacular. I love the new interior controls.

Hey guys...this isn't StangNet. If you want to puff yourselves up that you aren't stupid enough to go buy this year's model, take your ego elsewhere.

Steve, I might buy this year's model. But you better believe that I'll be pissed if my paint is messed up, and/or I need repairs done immediately.

My last two leases have ben when they've made changes. I have had small issues, but nothing mechanical that was major. I said I wouldn't get a vehicle in the change year again(just because of having to take it in) but I really want the new Mustang NOW . I expect some small things ,as in the past . But hopefully nothing major!

I've heard a slight whining sound on deceleration also. Other than that the quality, and fit and finish are exceptional.

I hate to hear that manufacturing defects are showing up on the new Stangs, but I do appreciate the posts informing us of them. When my GT comes in, I will look over the body much closer than I ordinarily would have for paint issues or repairs, and listen during the test drive for abnormal rear end, engine, and transmission noises. I don't expect perfection, but it has been my experience in the past that it can be difficult to get either a tech or the shop foreman, to either isolate or admit to a noise-related problem. My '99 spent way too much time at the dealer.

Exclamation

I've had mine for a week now and there is nothing at all wrong with it! I took nearly 2.5 hours in total going over the car bumber to bumber and found nothing! Ford it a home run with this one!!
