I didn't really know that...
Yeap! The interior, bumpers, and additional hp would really have made it very special.
But I am not bitter.

That &#@!*&% SVT and those Cobra owner SCUMBAGS!!!

Mr. Tang, if you are reading this, thank you for what you have done and are about to do to the Cobra. I have been waiting nearly 2 years for it already. I am sure you will make it special and I (we on this board) appreciate it.

All I ask is that if the car has SMG, please make a traditional clutch/tranny optional. Thank you.
I completely and utterly second that

I'm sure he will do a fine job with it.
I think the special formula for the next Cobra will be keeping it very powerful (obviously) just with a few more percks (surprise us) and at a reasonable price! All this will result in an even bigger success than the current Cobra!

I think this is very good news and the first announcement from Ford that I have seen that indicates the future of SVT.
This is from the Ford press web site.
Sorry if it is old news, but I hadn't seen it posted.

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 19, 2004 –Ford Motor Company today announced the following personnel and organizational realignments:

Chris Theodore, vice president, Advanced Product Creation, will retire from the company, effective Dec. 1, 2004. Theodore has spent more than 30 years in the automotive industry, starting at Ford as a college intern and an engineer in the heavy truck group. Theodore also spent time at General Motors, American Motors and Chrysler, before returning to Ford in 1999 as vice president, North America Car, where he played a role in re-energizing the company’s car line-up with vehicles such as the Ford GT.

"Since re-joining the company in 1999, Chris made significant contributions to product creation at Ford, including many key product programs and, most recently, through his leadership of Advanced Product Creation," said Phil Martens, group vice president, Product Creation. "Chris brought a wealth of engineering experience and a personal passion for the product that made a real difference in every program in which he was involved."

Also effective Dec. 1, Hau Thai-Tang will assume the responsibilities of Director, Advanced Product Creation and Special Vehicle Team (SVT). In his new role, Thai-Tang will be responsible for directing the operations of Ford’s Special Vehicle Team and Advanced Product Creation team. Previous to his new appointment, Thai-Tang was Chief Nameplate Engineer for the 2005 Ford Mustang and led the development and launch of the 2001 Mustang GT, Mustang Cobra, and Bullitt Mustang GT models. He was the vehicle dynamics supervisor and vehicle engineering manager for the 2000 LS, that won Motor Trend magazine’s "Car of the Year" award. Thai-Tang's Ford experience also includes an assignment in Germany, as well as working with Ford Racing. He joined Ford in 1988 as a Ford College Graduate trainee.

To further strengthen SVT's role in the company, Thai-Tang will report directly to Martens. John Coletti continues as director of the Special Vehicle Team and will report to Thai-Tang.

"The appointment of Hau to this role further cements the importance of SVT to Ford," Martens said.

"As Mustang fans now know, Hau and his team did a fabulous job bringing the all-new 2005 Mustang to life," Martens added. "As a youngster, Hau dreamed of one day owning a Mustang. Not only did his wildest dreams come true, but Hau also brought to life the dreams of Mustang fans everywhere with the rebirth of the original Pony Car."

Based on the article, seems like Hau Thai-Tang would be leading not only the Cobra development, but also any special editions that will come out under the Advanced Product Creation team. I think that bodes well for everybody...

Congrats Mr Thai-Tang!

Isn't Vietnam like China where the first name is the surname? In that case it would be "Congratulations Mr. Hau". Thai-Tang is his given name. Of course I could be all wrong!

it won't have a SMG
they know what we want-to really drive a car, not tap buttons to shift
SMG is not tapping buttons. A true SMG like developed by BMW has a manual shift pattern, just no clutch. You work the gas and shifter as normal. Also, it locks up the torque converter in all gears, making it a straight through with no slip.

no it is sequential (SMG) manual. The shifter is only a lever that you tap up and down to shift up and down. It works like the buttons on the wheel. Most have both the buttons and the console shifter. The tranny shifts for you, you jsut tell it when to shift.

From the BMW website:

Allows Automatic or Sequential (“S”) shifting. In “S” mode, you can shift by tapping race-inspired paddles behind the steering wheel, or using a shift lever on the center console. (Optional)

Congrats to Hau Thai-Tang. From what we have seen so far with the 2005 Mustangs from a performance standpoint, Ford has picked the right person to follow through with the meaning of SVT.

I'd like to add my congratulations to the list. The promotion is certainly well deserved!

psst: Hows about putting the (functional, of course) concept hood on the next Cobra?!?
