Need some opinions on stripes
Need some opinions on stripes
I'm thinking of adding racing stripes to my 06 Tungsten grey GT. Considering my polished billet grille, anthracite wheels, and chrome accents, I am leaning towards silver stripes from AM. Since I have a hood scoop, I'm looking at the super snake style. Should I go with silver stripes, black, or leave it the way it is? Thanks.

Hey fellow New Yorker, the best thing you can do is try to take pics of your car and then add stripes to the pics. Play around with it until you find something you like, not necessarily something someone else likes. I have a black and tan 06 vert and I'm thinking of getting light gold stripes down the middle of the car front to back. If I ever get it done I'll post a pic.
What ever you do you can't go wrong because stripes will make your car stand out.

I'm not sure silver would be my choice but that's up to you. I think stripes would work well on your car but black may be best. It's opinion time and you know what everyone says about opinions. I'm sure you will get what you like best.

Johnny,
That's a tough one-I'll always say mod/customize the car how you see fit! Don't let us plant seeds on our end! I'm back and forth on them as I rarely see stripes kits on Bullitt's but if I had to I would likely go with a Super Snake Kit. I think on TG the Gloss Black Super Snake Kit would look killer! I looked through our customer submitted pics and here's the closest I could get to TG:

Let me know if you have any questions and I'm here to help!

Here's my opinion, I know it doesn't help with your stripe dilemma, but I would lower your car and save stripes for later. But I guess if I had to vote I'd say black
Thanks for the feedback. I have thought about SR lowering springs. Not sure dropping it 1.5 inches would be the best idea for my chin spoiler going in and out of driveways etc. but it would be an improvement.
As far as stripes go, we all know you can't go wrong with black (and I'm not ruling it out). The silver seems subtle but still makes a statement. At least in online photos. I've yet to see this color combo in person. What do you guys think of these pics? I'm looking for honest opinions so please don't hold back.

Thanks for posting those photos as an example. I think they are fine. It certainly isn't odd looking if you are worried about that. Black is more noticeable. If you want subtle, then maybe this is the route to go.
By the way, all those that insist upon lowering cars, give it a freakin' rest. Some geographic locations are impossible. If I lowered my front end any further I would have NO FRONT END!

I also shared the concern for the front end and had no desire to lower the Mustang's more, but I did think the rear was a tad high so I lowered just the rear about 1-1/2". Then the front and rear tires are more centered in the openings and it lost that "highjacker" look in back. I've watched them guys with lowered cars tip toeing across intersections, in and out of parking lots, dragging parts, ripping chin spoilers .... ain't pretty. I'm not against lowering altogether .... I lowered my '92 T-bird and plan to do so to my '95 as well, but they sit higher than the Mustang front to start with. They also have more left over suspension travel than the Mustang, even after a slight drop.

I'm not saying slam the car to the ground lowering it, just an inch inch and a half really improves the look of the car. But as mentioned, everyone has an opinion. That's just mine, my honest opinion on stripes is not to do it. On some cars they look great! But sometimes I just think they don't come off well. Almost like they cheapen the look of the vehicle if they aren't just right, but please don't get mad your entitled to like stripes. That's just my opinion
It's your ride--your dollars. Gigantor's suggestion about playing around with the stripes is a good one. Don't pick one unless you are sure you can live with it. Personally, I like the Satin Silver stripes on the Tungsten grey. It doesn't pop with high-contrast like a white stripe, or black stripe would against the TG background, but it catches the eye just as effectively, with a more subtle contrast.
Lowering is an interesting choice as well--but before you spend any money consider what you might do with brakes, tires, and wheels. What do you have now? And more importantly, do you plan to swap them out for something else?
I did lower my 06 GT. I used the FRPP suspension kit, (shocks, springs, bump-stops, etc.) It lowers the stance by an inch. I also swapped out the GT lower arms for the 2007 GT500 A-arms (stiffer, heavier ball joints). But I felt confident about lowering the car since I will be staying with the 18" wheels. Staying with the 18" wheels I still have plenty of clearance--no concern even with the car lowered.
Had I decided to go with a big brake kit--in which case, to be sure I had enough clearance for the calipers, I would have gone with a 19" inch wheel to clear the 15" front rotor. Larger wheel, wider tire, I might not have lowered the car.
Just my .02

Personally, I like the silver/Tungsten combo, but I'm a little biased

I completely agree w/ Gigantor...do some photochopping first, see what effect looks best to you.
Obviously, since you're talking about going vinyl, this part isn't as directly applicable (but I had already finished typing this by the time I remembered you were talking about tape). Either way it still kind of applies with making sure it's going to look right when it's done. Good news about vinyl...you can always undo it.
Here's my $0.02-- if you go w/ silver, be cognizant of what silver you choose. Get some paint swatches and put them up against your car in all kinds of lighting. It's something that I didn't pay particular attention to when I did my stripes and I have some regrets.
I picked Mercedes Brillant Silver for mine --the effect I was going for was to have stripes that have the same luster/reflectiveness/quality/whatever you wanna call it as the Tungsten. I'd seen Satin Silver combos and I always thought the Satin didn't quite match up to the tungsten --it was too flat/satin. My wife's car is a CLK320 so I'd seen it in all sorts of lighting and knew it had the same kind of luster as my car. Problem was, since I only put the paint colors directly on eachother on the shade, I didn't notice that her silver had a tan tint to it. Now when I get my car in strong sun, I see it and I wonder what could have been if I had just gone with Ford Brilliant Silver (like what's on the new Edge's or Explorers).
A pic does a better job. Here's the comparison I did (the chunks were left over when I put the CDC agressive chin on)

In the shade, it looks great

In certain kinds of sun, not so much

Satin black (Sema HR010 Hot Rod Black is my choice), painted, not stickers, and the two wide ones.
But see, I'm having the troubles with this because of the chrome/brightwork. It is but my humble opinion that one, or the other, is to be done, for each detracts from the other in that particular color combo. NO stripes, to me, are going to look good with the chrome stuff on that color.
I of course remind you, OP, that it is your car, and you should do whatever the heck YOU want to do, our opinions be hanged. The suggestion that you use Photoshop/Gimp/MSPaint and a few pictures of your car is the best one.
I myself just visualize it in my head, and then go for it. Usually works out. And if others don't like it, well...
But she's a she, so replace that word in that.

That's the increased red shift in the light of a setting sun which is a result of the sun light traveling through more atmosphere encountered at lower angles and being affected by more sand, etc in the atmosphere ... to reach the stripes ... than it does when directly over head.
