It seems to take teenage girls 1 or 2 good scares before they start looking behind them when they backup.

you can check for used parts at car-part.com , you can put in your local area and see if any salvage yards are close to you. it will also list condition, color etc. may find a good used door and fender available. Good luck.

Sorry to see that, but I'm sure you can find a good place that will fix it good as new!

David, I'm so sorry! After finally meeting you at Carlisle this year, and seeing how nice your car is, I totally feel for you man! Hope things aren't too heavy in the price catagory for the fix. I know you'll have it fixed in no time though.

Sorry for your misfortune David. To me, I would guess at least $3000, and probably not more than $4000.

My '01 had similar damage. The door was wasted and my frame needed to be straightened, new floor etc. Total was over 4k and it was never the same. If you go through insurance, make sure they use NEW parts.

When my 05 was backed into in a parking lot (I was coming out of church and got to watch the gentleman back his minivan into my car), the only damage was to the door and mirror. I wanted the door replaced (and got it) because I did NOT want Bondo on my new car with less than 6k miles on it!

The actual door was not that expensive ($600 if my memory is correct), but most of the cost was doing the prep work and painting. They had to paint pretty much the entire drives side of the car to properly blend the paint. I sure can't tell were the old paint and the new paint come together.

The total for this was just over $2600. Add in replacing that fender and repairing in substructure damage, and you are EASILY over $3k and probably approaching (if not surpassing) the $4k mark.

Call your (or better yet, HER) insurance company.

Ouch! Sorry to see that happen. Teenage girls are the worst drivers, especially when backing up. When I used to ride in the car with my girlfriend she would say to me WHILE she is already backing up, "is there anything behind me?" and this is as she is almost completely out of her spot already, somehow she never managed to hit another car, curbs were a different story. And they say male teenage drivers are the worst...hah!

Actually, stats show that female teen drivers get in more wrecks than males...its just that males get in more expensive wrecks. Hence, the higher insurance rates.

Finally, the truth comes out!! I can totally believe that one. I never really understood why young males insurance rates were higher than young females. Now I do!

Tell insurance that it was a hit and run in a parking lot. And since it was on the passenger side, you didn't notice it until you got home.

Wow that sucks ! I feel your pain... not literally thankfully.

As for your motion sensor, I believe those are for sensing the car being TOWED, not STRUCK. The sensors detect changes in tilt angle, not body motion from being hit.

I had a brand new 1979 Mustang Turbo that got hit like that. Cost me an arm and a leg to fix it without insurance. (long story). Needed a new fender, door, windshield (cracked it) and had to have the shell straightened where the hinges attached. Cost me about $2000.00 back then. I figure yours could run $4000.00 plus. Hope not ! Good luck !

Just have her take it out again and get the other side messed up so you can replace it all with carbon fiber doors and fron fenders!!! IMO, a little weight savings!

^^^^ BAD ADVICE

Don't lie to your insurance company - if you get caught you would be in a hell of a lot larger mess than a $3k vehicular mishap.

You might get away with it... but then again, you might not. Err on the side of caution and just either report it to insurance and tell the truth or man up and pay to get it fixed on your own.
