My dealer had no problem with me not putting a deposit down until the build date. And even then, it will be refundable. The salesman wasn't even sure that they'd need it since I knew so much about the car, I was obviously an enthusiast and interested Find another dealer PonyGirl.

As far as the MSRP pricing, I think that is crazy, but alot of the other salespeople on this site tend to disagree with me. My opinion, and that of the dealer i work for, is that this is a regular production vehicle, just like a focus, taurus, etc... Sure they will be slow at first, but they aren't limited production vehicles like the Hybrid or the GT. I don't want to start another huge pricing debate but I think if you shop around a little you'll find a better deal.
I agree 100%. Good things come to those who wait.

WOW....thanks a lot to everyone! It is good to hear people reassure me to go elsewhere ( even though I have bought 2 other cars from that dealer). I have like 3 or 4 other dealers around town, and I am confident now that one of them will work with me and respect me.........even if I am a girl. ( and even if I have more information than they do). Haa haa haa.......this web sight is amazing, and I am blessed to have found it!
Thanks again to all

Sadly, it seems that the majority of 'dealers' out there are less informed than the community here on these forums.

I could order a Mach1 a couple of years back without giving any kind of deposit.....So pack up and go to the next dealer in your area......

Most of us know more about this car than the dealerships do. Try another dealership. There is 1 about 2 blocks from me that wanted a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. I drove 20 minutes to another dealer that only wanted a $250.00 refundable deposit and they are giving me the X-Plan discount. It pays to shop around.
Adrenalin is right. Most of us know more than the salseman. Had our yearly Mustang meet at our Ford dealership on Sat. There were 3 or 4 of us standing around [Ford salseman included] and he started to tell us some things about the 05, like they were going to be really scarce, and also $1200.00 difference above the base price of the 04GT. I let him go on a bit, and after, explained about the many things that have come to surface from this site. Talk about someone getting red in the face and disappearing quickly. You have to remember, most of these people are hired off the street, and they don't appreciate it when you know as much, or more than they do.

When I started to shop for a dealer, I went to the local one first. the salesman at first would go "they are not going to make them this year", and I told him ok what about Job #1 on Sept. 7?His responce was that they wont be sold this year, how about a nice 04 V6. I told him to give me a call when they get info on the 05 GT. when I got home I, called two other dealers, that were a lot more respectfull!!!!!!! Two days later I got the call from one about ordering my car. they have been the best about the whole thing, they will call me for info now, and tell me where my order status is.
P.S the other two have NEVER called back, and NEVER will I buy from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.P.S Order in on 6/14/04 D.O.R.A 6/17/04 Sub to Plant, and VIN# 9/17/04

I buy a lot of cars. I ordered a 2005 mustang probably in May????
With the understanding that I would get it A plan price. I put a $500.00 deposit down on it. They have my check but never cashed it. I went back last week to make sure that they knew my intentions. They told me that my car was going to be built on 9-27 04. So far so good. Will have to wait until the car arrives to see if their word is good.
I was also told back in May that my deposit was returnable
