I went to the dealer today to write up an order for my 2005 Mustang GT........I shoed them the form I got from brad with the order codes and everything and he went to make a copy of it and came back and was like" Where did you get this? Do you work for FORD? No way could you have gotten a hold of this unless you "hacked" the system?.............etc..............I was laughing cause apparently I was not suposed to have this information. Anyway, I told him I got it from a web sight message board, and he was not believing me. He was puzzled!

Anyway........I did not order the car yet, I just wanted more information. They said I have to pay MSRP pperiod.......no discussion about it, and that I would have to put $500 non refundable down, and it would take 8 - 12 weeks.
Does this sound resonable to you all?

If you feel comfortable paying MSRP sure...

I won't unless I've exhausted all avenues (check other dealerships who are will to sell for less)

If you offer 500 over invoice, they STILL make 500 bucks.
They just want to make more

No.

It sounds very unreasonable. As for the non refundable deposit, whats the worst thing that can happen to them? You order the vehicle, it comes in and you don't take it. Big deal, put it on the lot and sell it. There is no reason for a deposit to be non refundable.

As far as the MSRP pricing, I think that is crazy, but alot of the other salespeople on this site tend to disagree with me. My opinion, and that of the dealer i work for, is that this is a regular production vehicle, just like a focus, taurus, etc... Sure they will be slow at first, but they aren't limited production vehicles like the Hybrid or the GT. I don't want to start another huge pricing debate but I think if you shop around a little you'll find a better deal.

Just my two cents.

Non-refundable deposit is totally B.S.

Go elsewhere.

Thanks guys.
At first they told me that if i wanted to reserve one of the first mustang gt's to come on the lot it would be a $5,000 non refundable deposit.........I was laughing so hard, and I told him I didnt want one of those, i would be ordering and that is when he said $500 non refundable if I ordered one.
I think they were mad and enbarrassed because I had more information from Ford then they did.
My girlfriend was there to look at and maybe purchase an Escape Limited........she might still get it, but I was a little unhappy with guys info about the mustang. I dont think the sales guys know much. I know more then they do, anf they look at me......oh well........I am a girl , and I guess I shocked them a little today.

should never be a non-refundable deposit unless its on something uber-rare like a hybrid.

yea a non-refundable deposite is pretty much writing ur own deather certificate. cuz if u find out u CANT go thru with it ur out 500 buxx. soo i would say go elsewhere and make sure u let the other dealer know that the dealer ur currently in contact w/wont sell less than MSRP and u r very unsatisfied. also mention the district manager and the dealers will start to listen

I have three dealers in my area that told me they would sell me a 2005 Mustang at X-Plan pricing, while others have quoted $5000 over MSRP.

As for coming in a placing an order on an 05 Mustang I was told that I would have to pay a $500 deposit that would be refunded if I cancel the order or don't accept the car when it comes in.

The dealer also told me that it would take 8 to 12 weeks to get the car.

I would never put money down if it was non-refundable. Good dealers would allow it to be refunded.

On 8/13 I was told 8-10 weeks.
I was also told that my deposit would be refunded if I didn't take delivery, BUT the car had to sell first before I would receive my deposit back. It makes sense. I had an apartment that I had to move out early. The managers said that I would have to pay the rent on it until it was re-rented. It re-rented in 2 days (it had a city wide balcony view of Denver). I think the car would sell in less than one day, maybe even one hour.

I don't think it should be legal to have a non-refundable deposit on these cars period. They know they will sell the car!!!

ponygirl- i know what its like to walk into a dealership being a girl myself.... i would suggest going to another dealership too- and next time take a smart guy with you- dealers tend to pick us out just because we're girls- they think they can get more over on us... it helps to have a guy there to know b.s. when he sees it...

Just to throw in my talk on the 05 purchase. I did not put down any deposit, the dealership never does. If for any reason we do not like what we ordered or can not take at the time of arrival its not a problem. If we would like to order another one, that would be fine. Also any priceing plan A Z X will be excepted.

Anyone asking MSRP or more is just killing off their bussiness for sure these days. That dealership would never ever be considered to sell us a vehicle in the future. There is one in my area they have been weiners for years. I will occasionally look at their inventory, laugh to myself but I'll never purchase. Oh yeah and no one dealer trades with them either.

I was at that dealship for a car show and was approached. This is part of conversation. "A while back Ford promised us extra 05's for help in other areas of inventory control. If they come through I'll be able to sell you one on the plan."
My thoughs at the time, thanks, but no thanks. Never said what I had happenning.

Most of you guys are way to young to remember the 94. They too were highly desired and the prices were high only about 125,000 were built, 55,000 were GT's. It took untill into the 95's and inventories started to buildup. If this turns into a repeat, I will wait for 06. I think not this time, although there are pently of fish in the sea.

I called my nearest Ford Dealer and got one of the dumbest salesmen there is. When I told him I wanted info on the new Mustang, he said "Well, we don't have the literature or the pricing yet and you won't even get the car until next spring. They're not even building the new Mustang."

I then told him that he was sooooooooooo wrong - that I had seen pictures of new '05's on the ground at the plant and that I not only had pricing, I had dealer invoice as well.

He didn't believe me!

I told him that I couldn't believe that the dealership would let someone like him answer the phone and misrepresent their products with an obvious lack of knowledge and promptly hung up on his ignorance.

Nothing ticks me off more than to try and get info from someone who SHOULD have ALL the inside scoop only to find that I know MORE than they do - and THEY are the so-called 'experts'. :bang:

It seems that to get a job as a car salesman at most places around here, all you need to do is be able to say "Wanna buy that?". Sad but true. I won't be buying mine locally because of such stupidity and that is absurd.

Another time, I drove through a Ford Dealer's lot and saw a new Bullitt sitting up next to the door. A smarmy-looking salesman (in white shoes, no less) came slithering up to me and asked if I 'liked' the new Mustang. I said that it was certainly good looking and wondered aloud how much quicker it (the Bullitt) might be over a GT.

He let his rear hang out by saying this - and I am NOT making this up - "Well, this baby's got the new 5.0 motor in it - it'll blow away anything on the street!"

I was stunned! I looked at him and asked him, "Are you sure it has a five liter? And that it will blow away anything on the street?"

He grinned with his yellow teeth and restated his ignorance, "Why absolutely! That 5.0 is a great motor!"

I then just shook my head and said "If you can show me a 5.0 under that hood, I'll buy the car today and write you a check for it cash."

He got all giddy and promptly opened the hood and then - horror of horrors - realized his stupidity when he saw that it wasn't a five liter.

He tried to act all coy and jokingly said, "Well, I guess they must have just changed over" - again, showing total ignorance of his product - "Still wanna buy it?"

I shook my head 'no' and left him standing there with his butt hanging out. What a stupid man.

It all goes to show you that some sales people will say and/or do anything to anyone to try and make a sale, whether you are a man or a woman.

Most of us know more about this car than the dealerships do. Try another dealership. There is 1 about 2 blocks from me that wanted a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. I drove 20 minutes to another dealer that only wanted a $250.00 refundable deposit and they are giving me the X-Plan discount. It pays to shop around.

Your dealer is an idiot, Pony Girl.

You do NOT have private information. You can get the same pricing information, MSRP, Invoice, model and option codes, etc. from sites like Kelly Blue Book, Edmuds, etc. In addition Ford's own web site will give you both MSRP and Invoice pricing along with option codes.

Lets face it alot of dealers, not all are going to gouge us on these first purchases if they can, my advice to all know matter how bad you want it, learn to walk away if they really want to sell the car they try a little harder.
