My Dad's First Drive In the stang.

My mom and dad are coming from Chicago to Las Vegas for my graduation from UNLV next week.

I want my dad to drive the the Mustang to the golf course for a round or two. I think he is going to crap his pants the first time he gets on it.

What should I tell him from the start to not be so surprised. He is no stranger to muscle cars but has been driving small imports for the last 15 years or so because of his daily commute to and from work and golf.

I think it will be fun. When my dodge was first stolen he tried to talk me out of a sports car (I'm 22) but eventually thought it would be good for me. (I'm 22) I think he was scared because when I was 16 he put the kibosh on an LS1 WS6 Trans Am I scoped out.

I think I'm going to set the speed limiter to 30 MPH as a joke

As you can tell I am really excited to see my parents as it has been almost a year since I have last seen my papa.

My mom came out 6 months ago for my GFs graduation and really talked up the car to my dad. He has been giddy ever since but is concerned how we will fit the golf clubs, their luggage and him and my mom in the car...

"Go Easy On Pops at First"

Your 22, Graduating from college, driving a GT/CS and the Folks coming to in to town. Lifes truely is good!! Congrats Bro. Enjoy!! Go a little easy on Pops until he re-finds his car guy comfort zone with your wonderful Cal!

I have an uncle who has a beautiful and fast silver '79 big block Trans Am. When I took him for a ride in the CalStang he asked. "Just how can they possibly make any real strong horse power in these newer tiny little V-8's and on the unleaded gas"? I said "Good question". "Can I show you Uncle"?

We went to a very large empty casino parking lot and I launched at about 3-Grand and pulled the second gear power shift from hell before shutting it down. He said "OMG" and then took time to breath! He is not even a Ford guy, but now loves that S-197 engine sound!

Asked him if he wanted to test drive it next and he said "No Thanks". Because he said "It is just too wild and crazy fast"!! Funny!! Had a real blast with that one!

Enjoy having some great "Q" time with your Folks while they are there and congrats again.. CalStang

First, congrats on graduating man! That's a major accomplishment and one that will serve you well in life.

Second, do whatever you can to get your pop to take the keys and take it for a spin. When I bought my Torch Red, my dad saw how well I treated her and didn't even want to get behind the wheel for fear that he was going to hurt her somehow. But the first time he was in the passenger seat and I really got on it, his face lit up. So the day I brought the Triple Black home from the dealership, I immediately threw him the keys and we raced out in front of my folks house (and of course I let him win!). He had the biggest smile on his face that I've even seen. From then on, the TB has been his car to drive to shows and cruise in. Doing something small like that to make the pops smile makes all the hard earned $$ and sweat equity invested SO worth it!

Enjoy spending time with the folks, congrats on the graduation and good luck in your next endeavor!

Thanks for the congrats guys. It really means a lot. I didn't have those "college" years that most people talk about. I have been working 40 to 60 hours a week and have been taking 4 or 5 classes per semester for 4 and a half years (the accounting program is a 5 year program at UNLV).

This is going to be a week long exhale. And I wouldn't want to spend it with anyone else.

I think I'm going to try to get my dads crying and giggling on tape.

I think a nice SC would make a good gift for yourself.

It's really cool to hear about how excited you are for your Dad to drive your car. My dad has driven once in my car. I took him to the Ford dealer one morning to pick his truck up and he never really said anything about it. My dad is about 6'4" and 70 years old so maybe it was a little hard for him to get into, but I was hoping for a little more love for 7. He had a Trans Am GTA back in the 80's but I guess those days are long gone.

The cool thing is my daughters love the car. My youngest 2 loves to sit in it everyday when she comes home with her mom and kisses the car door all the time.

I'll be excited when she gets to drive it someday.

Anyway thanks for sharing and I hope your dad rags on her a little bit for you.
