My '07 GT Order - Part II

Ok, so for anyone who didn't catch the first act...

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=62902

Now, for part II... I called the dealer today and had my salesman switch the interior to red (thanks again to Kevin who saved me from a really bad "I can't believe this is dove" car pickup day). I also had him fax over the final VOC to me (the one they did last week was just a mockup to get the pricing). This one has a real order number on it. The priority is 11 (anybody know what that translates into?).

So, the order is just the way I wanted it (i.e. they didn't screw up the entry). The only issue is still this whole, "we're gonna give you the x-plan pricing" thing. That's all fine and good, but it doesn't say that on the VOC, so I don't know how they're planning on giving that to me.

I mean, I'm ok with it either way, because they did give me the VOC mockup, highlighted the invoice price and signed it as a guarantee that I wouldn't pay any more than that. That's actually what I was going for (I didn't even know about the x-plan until they told me about it).

I guess I'm just a skeptic and hesitant to trust them. I think the guy is actually being straight with me (just my gut feel/read of the guy), but I think he's relatively new to the game.

Anyway, I'm chillin' for now, because the order is right and I know my top price (which includes the destination charge). Now I just have to keep checking the order (still worried about the potential commodity hold on the nav system).

...oh, and Kevin, you're right. The cool guys do have red interiors.

So are they still sticking to the BS about not ordering you the CS package? I would find a different dealer that would order you exactly what you want at X-Plan pricing.

I wouldn't trust your dealer. IMHO.
Spec out your Stang on edmunds.com or similar site and it will give you the dealer invoice and MSRP. You can closely calculate X-Plan from that. If I remember your last thread, you put a 1K deposit down. Is that refundable? If so, I would demand it back and re-order from a dealer who will work with you in a more *friendly* way. The lowest Priority for a retail order is a "10" and you have a "11". So, it should more down the line as usual.

Well x-plan pricing is stated on the invoice when the car is built. When you order the car it shows all pricing, including D, X, retail, and raw cost, so they probably didn't want to show it to you. X-plan is right about invoice for Mustangs, so they probably just printed the retail screen. Again, the dealer gets reimbursed by Ford when the pin is used, so it makes no sense to sell it at invoice instead of just doing an x-plan sale. They probably just dont want you to see the holdback or something.

Well, I'm actually happy with my order the way it is now. It took me awhile to decide, but I prefer the red interior (after seeing some real pics and not Ford's alternate reality ones). There are other reasons, but long story short, I'm excited about my order as-is.

OK, first issue: Are you getting the exact car you want - and do you have a piece of official paper that verifies that?

Second: Work out final prices at the time of ordering. That's what I did. Don't wait till the car comes in to d!ck around on price. (The way I went about it, was to go straight to the sales manager - avoiding all the back-and-forth negotiating bull - and order the car. I got the sales manager directly to agree to $500 over dealer invoice, which, while not ideal, was what I felt was a fair price.)

Third: As to when the car arrives, well, it will arrive when it arrives. There's not much you can do about that (many of the circumstances are beyond your control). The above two issues, getting exactly what you want and price, are the ones you want to be most concerned about.

If you're getting Redfire with the red interior, I think you will like it. And don't be put off when people tease you about getting "Mid-life crisis red with the porno red interior."

Kevin, that makes sense. Of course, these days we can probably find that stuff out anyways, but I suppose us Mustang nuts are a rare breed.

Now if I can just sell my '00 GT (for that all important down payment) and then survive the wait...

I guess porno red is a good thing, I've had the car for 9 days and 6 different women have gone out riding in it with me (and no, not my mom or family)

And my g/f has been busy lately so I will see her Wed for her first ride

Hollywood... Yep, the VOC has the car just as I want it. As for the price, I was shooting for around invoice, so I have that in writing (and signed). If I get something better great, otherwise, I'm no worse off. I didn't have to negotiate on it either way.

Kevin... Glad that's working out for you! Unfortunately, my wife probably wouldn't appreciate me giving rides to the ladies, so I guess they'll all have to just keep dreamin'.

dude, if you are x-plan eligible with an x-plan pin, you should get x-plan pricing.

Well that's just it. I don't have an x-plan pin. I mean, I could try and get one over at blue oval, but it's nothing I'm entitled to. They just seemed to think that they could get it for me.
