Funny how History repeats itself.

Way back in 1964...Ford introduces the Mustang...There is no Camaro, no Cuda's, no Chargers, no Challengers, no Datonas, no TransAms or Firebirds (there were the GTO and new Chevelle)...By 1967 Chevy, Mopar, you name it....are hard at it. :worship:

Cycle up to 2005...Ford introduces the, some say, the Retro Look, Mustang! There is no Camaros, no Chargers, no Datonas, no TransAm, or Firebirds....................BUT soon there will be....and pretty much like 1967, 40 years later in 2007, The wars are begining again. Camaro has a concept car finally, Chargers and Daytona's are out there and even the GTO is here.

Will it end again like it did in 1972 with high insurance bills, No Gas or what....

For those of us who remembed that last time....For me, I was born too late (1960)....I got my license when the Mustang II's were all the rage and the old muscle cars were just old cars.

Lets enjoy our second shot at the Wars.....we may not be around for a 3pete.....only our kids.

IMHO

Cool, sounds like you have an idea going there. This time around, we will be seeing some really high horsepower, and definitely more insurance bills. Especially if you keep buying these cars for your kids and they end up racing someone and hurting themselves...

Be careful!

Wow, i guess history is repeating itself. It's amazing how its almost the same 40 years later. The only difference is the new mustang isn't $2700.00. :P

Just imagine, under the same comparison of inflation, if the Mustang is still around in 40 years, the sticker will be $270,000 in the year 2045.

I had a funny thought. If this flying car stuff ever happens in the distant future, Ford will have to do a Special Edition P-51 Mustang.

Hopefully the competition will mean even meaner and badder Mustang's in the near future.

Right on I hopped on the Mustang band wagon, being a former owner of 2 IROC-Z's and 1 Trans Am. I haven't seen anything in the Camaro or Challenger that would make me want to run out and trade in the Mustang. If they want to try muscle car wars then fine. I know if I pull up to a light and there is a Camaro down there I would have the better car. The challanger is too big. The Camaro is too small. the Mustang is just right

I see the same things happening that you do.... I think the insurance companies will start putting a big damper on things again and with the unstability of gas and the prices, I just can't help but wonder if by the time the camaro comes back, it will already be over with...! I was around when the big lines were forming at the gas station and it wasn't pretty. Of course it was all a big scam then so you have to wonder about now as well. Gas companies and the government (look at the tax you pay on a gallon of gas) are just out for the money as usual and put a scare in people and boom, prices are up. Of course China getting into the whole energy/gas thing isn't helping our cause either.

the gto and the chevelle were muscle cars, the stang was fords answer to the muscle car seeing that people wanted a fast smaller, sportier car and thus the pony car, but yes it is starting all over again and again we will have the mopar vs chevy vs ford battles going on, but let know one forget that it is because of the stang that the others exist and the mustang unlike the others never went away. Problem is I want both the new camaro and the challenger, too bad they dont cost what they used to.

Actually the Baracuda was out a few weeks earlier than the Mustang, but no one really noticed it.

You are correct.

Although the idea of a "Pony Car" orginated with Ford. Once word of the Mustang leaked out Chrysler went into a frenzy to bring out the Barracuda first in an attempt to steal Ford's thunder. Fortuately for Ford, the original Barracuda looked exactly like what it was, sported up Valient that lacked the long hood sporty proportions of the Mustang making the original Barracuda a snoozer in the marketplace that became mearely a footnote in automotive history.

Think you are "right on". Having been there for the first round, I think the horsepower wars are starting and sooner or later (sooner probably) the insurance companies will be cracking down. On the other side of the coin, heard on the news that China will be coming out with a $10,000 econo car for the US market in two years. (Anybody remember the YUGO?). The $10,000 question is when will the politicians get into the act? The last time there was a fair share of under the table arm-twisting to the Big about cutting hp

Insurance rates on muscle cars played only a small part in the demise of the muscle car in the early 1970s.

The main reasons for the end of the original muscle car era was emissions and safety regulations. Everyone seems to forget that muscle cars represented only a very, very small portion of overall vehicle sales. In 1969 Boss 429 sales were only 0.2% of Mustang sales (that's right 2/10 of a percent!). Even the popular Boss 302 accounded for less than 2% of Mustang sales. Faced with a short timeframe to bring new models in complance with the new safety and emissions regulations the auto makers cut their performance programs to concentrate on updating their volume models.
