Why do people (Autoblog) report on these things, include pictures of other people's hard work, then pass it off like it's an OEM concept car. I guess the owner should feel good about the work he did.

Regardless, this would be way cool to see. Hope this happens.
How did they get 05Boss's picture, some one write a comment on the link

I cant say with 100% certainity, but I believe as a small production car company, Saleen may have more lax standards to meet on emmisions certification.

2008 Boss 302

Motor Trend reports before Ford comes out with the restyled Mustang in 09, to hold interest they will come out with a Boss Mustang with a 390 HP 5.0 normally aspirated modular engine. It will have the Shelby suspension setup.

As in Boss 302?

Hopefully, Ford will finally use that underhood scoop cut-out!

I WILL buy a Boss when/if it bows. I bought my 05 with the intention of using it as a stop-gap until a Boss was offered.
I am hoping for a 5.0 cammer around 400 hp w/ a 6-spd. I would bet on a functional shaker on this one as well.
Since the new Camaro is rumored to have 400HP with a 6-spd, I'm hoping Ford follows suit.

Anyone care to speculate on how they are going to strip the interior for weight savings. It's not like it's full of ultra plush stuff. As we in bakersfield had well over 20 consecutive days over 100 and some 115, I'm pretty sure AC is a must.

I really really like the idea of this car, but I'm trying to figure out what I will sacrafice for weight savings.

Fiberglass/Aluminum hood, remove sound damping material, aluminum block (one can dream), lighter wheels... basically follow the Z06s example.

^His post wasn't there when I wrote mine, I swear!!!

Sound system equipment is heavy, they may cut that? Maybe less sound proofing, a light weight battery too. Especially nice--but less easily implemented--would be lighter forged wheels, aluminum chassis reinforcement and suspension bits instead of steel and lightweight flywheel /driveshaft (would also help with "Boss 302"-ish rev characterstics), but beyond that all the "luxuries" are closer neccesary, and extensive aluminum use or carbon fiber is def. out of the question.

I was going to wait for the new 08 - 09 order 08 in 6/07 or order in 09 in 6/08. but if this Boss comes out with 390HP this could work for me. I also read in a magazine test driving the proto new Camaro they reported it will have UNDER 400HP as they (Chevy) do not want it to compete with the base Vette.

What do you think base price will be on the Boss? ($32,000)

In case this wasn't posted here is the picture of the Boss.

How do you post the above picture (imbed) here? I added [img] [/img] but it won't inbed.

The 4.6 in the Mustang already has an aluminum block. IMO, Ford should follow the Z06 example, but I seriously doubt the beancounters would allow extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum in the chassis/body. A lot of the weight in the Mustang is in the chassis which makes it a bit more difficult to remove. Lightweight seats, hood, fenders, driveshaft, and battery would be nice...

Here is some more info guys (8/1/06) on the Boss for late 07

"And now, it looks like Ford is going to do it again. With the impressive GT500 offering up a blindingly fast, yet still daily-driver-friendly version of the Mustang, Ford has left themselves plenty of room to produce a less friendly, more track-ready version of their immortal ponycar. Having reportedly commenced last year, the current Boss project is nearing completion and is rumored to be on schedule for an 07 launch. Based on the aforementioned Shelby, the Boss should inherit the GT500s almost flawless suspension setup, with the majority of the changes being to the powerplant and trim. The former could be either a naturally aspirated version of the GT500s 5.4L motor (itself lifted from the GT, which in turn borrowed it from the F-series pickup), or a currently unknown 5.0L, which would render a period-correct displacement of 302 cubic inches for this new Boss. Either way, Ford wont allow the Boss to impinge on the Shelbys 500 horsepower figure, therefore the Boss Mustangs power output is expected to be in the 390 horsepower range.

To make up for that shortcoming, the Boss interior would be stripped out, and any extraneous matter (ie: sound deadening) would be tossed. The end result could potentially be a car with the weight of a V6 Mustang, more power than a Mustang GT, and best of all, a lower price tag than the GT500.

I'm having trouble figuring out what sound deadening they're talking about. I've seen it mentioned a few times and, honestly, I don't think there's enough in there to even make a difference. I've had my interior mostly apart and all I could find is two very thin small pieces of damping in each door. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's just what I've seen in mine.

The sound deadening stuff is all over the car. There is some under the rear seat and in the trunk. But, I doubt there is enough to make a significant dent in the weight.
