Yeah, say that, intriguing! Like the emphasis on weight reduction and that the package will contain real mechanical meat, unlike the fluff-package GT/CS. One rumor mentioned a naturally aspirated 5.4 while another hinted at a 5.0. I would prefer the former, or a 4.6 in DOHC and AL block trim to reflect the high rev nature of the original Boss 302. I see a torquey 5.4 more as a natural Mach I motor ala the original 428CJ Mach I's. But however delivered up, the mentioned 390 hp would be most welcome.
As they say, however, power without control is nothing. Sounds like the suspension/brakes would be fairly straight off the GT500. Not bad there though the stillborn IRS would be better yet to give a Boss true broad-band handling capability, but given Ford's desparate financial state, guess I'll take what we can get. Excising a few hundred pounds of deadweight out of the nose really ought to bring the GT500'esque suspension to life.
Visually, a GT500 based nose and tail would be nice too, with some hopefully not overdone Boss graphics. Hopefully no cheesy hood scoop unless its really scooping some air -- the Boss ought to be a serious driver's car, not a peacock's pimp mobile.
Article did mention a decontented interior to save weight, though I'm not sure exactly what they'd pull out. I would hope, rather, for better bolstered seats -- some serious Recaros or Sparcos would do the trick here -- and GT500 instrumentation and pedals. But again, I don't see where there's too much weight to pull out there, short of deleting the back seat perhaps (unlikely).
For real weight savings, I think they'd need to up the AL or even composite parts count in the chassis and drive train. An AL-block motor would be a huge starting place with perhaps a lightened flywheel (I'm presuming a tight, six speed manual tranny) and AL drive shaft. Maybe some AL bits in the rear axle/suspension to get down overall and, more importantly, unsprung weight. And perhaps some more AL body panels (front fenders, rear trunk) to shed a few more pounds. Might even scoot the battery to the trunk for improved weight distribution.
Anyways -- dream, dream -- good to hear more and more Boss rumors -- where there's smoke, there's likely a fire. I'd love to see a real, serious, understated and overdelivered true driving machine as the new Boss.

Hmmm, that picture looks familiar...

Why do people (Autoblog) report on these things, include pictures of other people's hard work, then pass it off like it's an OEM concept car. I guess the owner should feel good about the work he did.
Regardless, this would be way cool to see. Hope this happens.

I was just gonna say that about it being someones car on here, also did Ford already say that they are coming out with a NA 5.4L in 08 that they plan on calling the Bullitt? Or perhaps a Mach I since they already have the naming rights to that and the Bullitt might fall through. Boss I think is so far out of this because of this issue, Ford doesnt own the rights to the name last I heard.

Who needs forged internals? I see no need of going forced induction. If the thing really weighs 3400 pounds, makes 390 N/A horsepower out of the box, three grand in bolt-ons could get you around 400 to the wheels. (More than enough.) Hell, if what I just described becomes reality, it could easily take down GT500s on road tracks.

If you get MotorTrend there is a picture and a short write up on the Boss Mustang. MotorTrend says that it should be an all aluminum motor of about 5.0L and around 390 hp. It is on pages 14-15 and says that the car will have the GT 500 suspension and a stripped interior.

Nice stuff. Man, sometimes I think the people who say "buy now, or else you will be waiting forever" are right.
As soon as this Boss drops, if it does, there will be sweet info on the redesign...o-well. I guess it is a good thing I don't have any money right now after all...

Basically nothing . An iron block six is about as heavy as an aluminum eight. Though, the stick shift V6 is lighter than the stick shift GT by about 200 pounds because it has a T-5 tranny, whereas the GT tranny is beefier. But comparing auto to auto (the two share auto trannies) the weight difference is nil.
