Markups, Still!
A few weeks ago my daughter and I went to Reicart ford in Columbus and every Tungsten they had had a $5,000 mark up on it, and they were V6's not 8's. Just because it is a new color I guesss they feel it will be hot.
They had a side sticker that said dealer added options. Did not say what they options were or anything. I asked the guy what they were he said something about the wheels, when I informed him that those were the wheels it rolled off the line with he clamped up. I told him I was through that I would not be buying from them and walked away.

They would sell more if there were Gts,,,,But in your numbers you don't show the break down on the V6s and Gts....Jt

But, the bottom line is that for the last 4 months Ford has been manufacturing more Mustangs than they've been selling. This means that inventory on dealer lots has to be increasing, unless Ford is dumping those extra Mustangs into the ocean.
I checked the local internet auto swap & sell site. There are over 100 05 Mustangs listed for sale, 90% of them by dealers. They are listed at or above MSRP. A lot of demonstrators are for sale, with 500 - 5,000 miles. You know the Mustangs that the daeler owner's kid has been beating the snot out of for the last 6 months. These demos. are listed at or above MSRP too. Never under estimate the greed of the typical dealer.
Well I have only seen very few V6s and no Gts yet of the 05s or 06s.
Just going by a few dealers some have maybe 2 V6s - 20 V6s on their lots but no Gts......
I feel maybe Hertz bought many V6s for their fleet.
I think maybe 1 out of 20 will be a GT and the rest are V6s,let me know if my numbers are wrong?
And if thats the case i see that the Gts will not go down much when you resell the car....So then its a great buyyyyyy....JT

Here are the monthly sales #s for the Mustang so far in 2005:
Jan 10,285
Feb 14,050
Mar 17,926
Apr 19,559
MAy 19,721
June 14,470
July 10,577
August 10,921
September 10,976
October 11,234
As the #s show, sales have really slowed down since earlier in the year.
Dealers who are still trying to get mark ups are grasping at straws as it looks like supply will soon exceed demand.

Hey V10, just remember, Mustang sales have never really beenstrong in the going into the winter months, especially in the northeast and northern central part of the country. Not the best car for snowy weather. Once spring comes around, it will pick up again.

If you look back at the monthly sales #s for the past few years, July is normally a strong sales month, September is usually one of the best sales months and December is also a strong sales month.
The fact remains that in spite of all the hype we've been hearing, sales of the new Mustang have slowed significantly over the last 4 months.
I belive that there are several reasons for the slowing sales:
1. Dealer markups
2. Ford is building too many verts.
3. Ford's screwed up allocation which is giving too many Mustangs to the real big dealers and sending too few GTs to the Northeast US.
4. The V6 has not caught on with the "average" non car person consumer. These people are buying Asian brand competitors. The "average" customer used to be the mainstay of Mustang sales. Ford has probably lost these customers forever.

I thought that when sales were Apr 19,559 May 19,721 that ment July 10,577 August 10,921 September 10,976 October 11,234 wasn't all that good.
Unless sales figures for November and December are superb, Mustang sales for this year could actually be considered quite disappointing. It's sold even less than previous model years did.
The biggest dent in sales figures was probably made by Employee Pricing in summer. This is when Mustang sales really took a huge dive compared to the months prior.
I guess people took advantage of great savings rather than paying full MSRP (or more) for a Stang.
High gas prices, lack of GT inventory and ludicrous dealer mark-ups didn't help sales either.
I suspect we'll see nice discounts by spring next year.
Who knows, but I think there's a good chance that the Stang will be included in Employee Pricing in summer 06, if Ford chooses to run the program again.

I would be interested in seeing how this Sep Oct and Nov compared to last Sep, Oct, and Nov. This would remove the seasonal effects on mustang sells so that one could compare apples to apples.
GTs are still a rare breed and still very high in price!!!
People still stop and stare at mine.
The high end pricing has to hurt Ford in some way or another.
Yeah, lots of buyers took advantage of the plan deal and by not including the Mustang, it hurt sales.
Happy Trails!!!

Did you say discounts next spring?
Try right now!!
3-4 GRAND OFF MSRP on the ragtops and 2-3 grand all Mustangs.
It was in the sunday paper here at a local dealership (North Side Ford).
Soooo they are pricing out the 05's.
I know they have allot of them as I drive by there most days.
They even have 3 used ones and one of them is a GT!
The GT was a mineral gray if anyone is interested.
fyi

Someplace on this forum there should be a place for members to post what is known about their local dealerships-people are still willing to travel to pick a car. The five local Ford dealerships here have a combined 2006 Mustang inventory of over 145 cars - including GTs. Several still have 2005 models on the lot. That's not counting several used '05
Mustangs.

Unless the Mustang has spectacular sales #s in Nov & Dec, sales for the year 2005 will come in only around the 21st best.
In fact when the SN95 Mustang was introduced it sold better than the S197, and that was without all the hype that the 2005 had.
Calander Year US sales:
1999 - 166,915
2000 - 173,676
2001 - 169,198
2005 ~163,000 - estimated based on sales through Oct 31.
