I still don't get why folks are intent on replacing a true dual, madrel bent, stainless steel exhaust system. The last gen stang...no prob. It was smart mod, freed up h.p. and opened up the soundtrack. But the 05? Sounds great, flows great. Why bother?
Some have claimed that aftermarket manufacturers have reduced the bends in the stock setup and that the actual exhaust sound of the cat-back is louder than that of the axle-back

I'm with you on the stock system. If this was the sound/volume of the previous generation, you would have sworn that it had an aftermarket exhaust bolted-up.

They are not that bad (the magnaflows), but like many have said (and you now agree) probably not worth the $$$.

I just wanted some good sound. I'd never heard a magnaflow system, though.

I guess I should've done what I knew would be the right path - o/r and flowmasters.

I really don't care if it adds hp, subtracts hp, whatever. I just wanted noise. If I want to drive something fast I'll park the stang and take a ride in my pickup.

Thanks for the video.
I'll reserve judgement until I hear them in person.

P.S. I sent a link of this page to a friend of mine that wanted to hear the stock exaust. I went to sent it and Outlook spellchecked it. It suggested I change "Magnaflow" to "Megaflop" so what does that mean....

LOL

Normally I prefer the MagnaFlow sound. When I first heard the new GT sound in neutral I thought it was good - won't even have to change the muffs. Then when I drove mine home after just getting out of my '04 GT with MagnaFlows I knew the mufflers had to change - too quiet!

People here said the '05 exhaust wasn't that loud without the mufflers. So, I knew stock was too quiet...MagnaFlows would probably be too quiet....FlowMasters and Bassanis are too loud for me. Checked Borla but they only make a cat back system. Bought the Steeda axle back pieces. Should be here today. Will know soon if I made the right decision.

Doesn't sound bad, I just like stock better. After they break in a little, the will sound louder and deeper. Let us know what you decide.

If you want noise, check the muffler delete that someone posted on here, its cheaper and no muffler to muffle the noise.

Again I stand by my Magnaflows. That video really does not do them justice. They are a lot lower and a lot louder under torque and when you OWT man they kick hiney. I think the microphone actually messed up the sound because when he starts the car you can hear them and then almost not hear them at all once the very low tone hits.

Do not judge the magnaflow mufflers just from this one video. Go to www.magnaflow.com and listen to their videos. They obviously used a better microphone setup.

The magnaflows definately look better and sound a lot better than the factory. If you get the cat-back system, which I now have you will see that there are less bends in the pipes compared to the stock so was it worth the upgrade....well for you it might not be but for me it sure was.

I'm sure they would sound great with an off-road pipe. The Magnaflows are deeper and more mellow. Ford spent a lot of time computer- modeling and testing the exhaust to get it right, and they apparently did a good job. Thanks for the clips. I don't think Magnaflow is going to gain a lot of sales from these clips.

Guys, I had the full stainless Magnaflows on my 95 gt vert 5sp. I too thought it got quieter than the stock mufflers on that car, and they did not get louder over 6 months of driving. It was not the sound I was looking for for my 95. In my case, and if you check the other 94-95 and other forums on stangnet, you will see that alot of people think the magnaflows are too quiet, and the magnapacks are too "glasspack sounding". I ended up putting a bbk offroad h-pipe on the 95 and the system sounded better after that, but it developed that hated 60-70mph drone.

In terms of a performance sound, I had a MAC catback (which fit much better and installed easier on my 96 gt vert) that sounded great. check out www.mustangworld.com for some sound clips of MAC exhaust. However the chrome tips on the MAC system (no stainless were available when I bought it) started to rust from the inside out. So far, from what I have heard, I really like the JBA exhaust and the Bassani on the 05 GT.

I plan to stick with stock for a while, but just maybe put some stainless tips on.

I just got the shipping info that my JBA axle backs were sent out yesterday. Hopefully I'll have them on this weekend and post before and after videos.

I hear that the axleback system sounds quite different then the catbacks which I have. I also know of 4 users on this site and 2 on another that have been overly happy with the sound of their catback systems saying there is definately a cleaner deeper sound to the Magnaflows. Guess I will have to judge with my own ears when my car gets here next month.

Agreed, I was going to go with Magnaflows as well, but I had heard this sort of thing before. I think I'm going with the Steeda axle-back. Has anyone bought/tested these yet?

Make your own decision, but I'm incredibly disappointed.

exhaust swap video

The first half is stock, the second half is Magnacrap.
Madhouse,
Are they standard Magnaflows or Magnapaks?

I think the actual sound of the magnaflows is better. It sounds more "tuned" than the stock. IMO louder is not necessarily better, it is the note I am looking for.

Has anyone else noticed that the axle-back's for the 2005 are NOT listed on the Magnaflow site anymore???

All I see are 15881 Magnaflow cat-back and 15883 Magnapak cat-back...

I have to follow up with them today to make sure they got my mufflers I returned. The axle-back kits did not fit properly because FORD changed the exhaust pipe design during production. Perhaps they are only offering the cat-back kits for now until they re-notch the mufflers.

They are available on the Steeda site for $200 cheaper.
