Lower door drain plastic plugs

Hi all, noticed the two lower drain holes in each door are covered with plastic plugs, do the plugs serve a purpose? Seems to me the plugs defeat the function of the drains. Should they be removed? Thanks for your replies.

They supposedly stop water/noise entering the door from road splash or driving thru deep water. Removal seems to be no issue for most. They do seem to just cause the crud from inside to collect and block the draining. Removal or keeping them clean are the two options.

my 06 had them but front only, the 07 had them, 09 did not... not really sure why some do, some dont, maybe a third shift thing

anyways, I took them all out- easier to see if they are open, and one less thing to snag a rag on when washing...

My 07 had 2 in each door and my 13 has them as well. They are supposed to keep the air out and let any water drain out easily.
