I think NJ tried to get rid of the law a couple of years ago, but too many women and old ladies complained that they didn't want to get their hands dirty, or it was too cold, or it was raining and that someone else can do it for them. Some of them even admitted they didn't even know where to put the nozzle in. Just an excuse. I can't see why they don't offer a self-service side and a full-service side...I'll tell you why... Because less than 1% of their population would use the self-service side and prove that most folks are able to and want to pump their own gas. I'll never live in that state (or Oregon for that matter).
Here is the funny part. I live in South Florida. What happens in the winter when all the snow birds come down? Every person from NJ just has to tell me they don't know what they are doing because it's illegal up there. Thanks bud, the last 500 people said the same thing. And I do the same thing with all of them, teach them how to pump it themselves. And yes, it is mostly the women and old people. The most common excuse for the older set is, "My husband always did it and now he's dead." The thing is, I still see people not let women pump for themselves, regardless of thier age. I don't get that. At the station I work at, I've had three women drive off with the nozzel still in thier cars. They gave me back the nozzel, and I didn't bother to tell them how scratched up they just made thier car. Some things you just have to learn the hard way, and if you don't know enbough not to drive off with the handel, I can't help you.

Hey, can you elaborate on this? I've never been to a car show and I'm not sure I understand what bicycles do there.. is it that they rest their bikes near the cars? Or the risk of them riding into the cars?

(FYI, I am totally in support of any sort raging/flipping-out retaliation towards anything happening to my car, just trying to understand how the bikes fit into this picture)

True. My point wasn't directed towards a diss at Spanish, I just meant that it doesn't matter what nationatlity, race, sex, blah blah blah. There are just people out there that are inconsiderate and don't care about other's property. I think someone explained it well here, those who have and those who don't..

What I mean by that, is kids on bikes, they ride BETWEEN the cars, and don't give a rats a$$ if their handlebars or pedals hit the cars. This normally occurs during car shows that happen in towns where they close off the streets. Iritates me to no end! I've seen a kid forget to hit his brakes and roll right into a fender of an older car!

I own a restaurant in Sacramento, Kollyfornya. I've had my GT/CS vert there twice, and both times I've had problems with 'idiots'. First time, I took up 2 spaces so no one could park next to it, and give me door dings. Some elderly couple tried to squeeze their car into the space next to it! While I stood there watching them! As the lady in the passenger seat reached for the door handle to exit, (and she's like 8 inches away) I yelled to her "Don't even THINK of opening up that door!!!" They got all irate because someone parked taking two spaces. I replied with, "Yes, I did that on purpose because I didn't think anyone was STUPID enough to try to park there... Obviously I was wrong!!!" I had to get in and move it, as she was going to exit her vehicle anyways!!!
Second time, I'm outside talking to one of my managers, and a woman comes outside to have a cigarette. She leans on the driver's side on my car. I ask her to not lean on the ride. She starts with "OH, you must take good care of it, it looks really nice! I do auto detailing for a living." How the hell can you do detailing, and lean on someone's car? She gets all irate also, (I have that effect on people) and tells me that I need to take my car into a detailer, because it obviously needs it. Quick change of attitude there! So I reply with "Well, it surely wouldn't go to YOUR shop!" So the Stang doesn't get to go to 'work' anymore....

Hey now, I take both of my dogs to most of the shows I go to...

But they are small, female (no whizzing on bumpers), and well behaved with regard to the cars. Plus I make sure they don't touch the cars...

When you take up 2 parking spaces you are just asking for trouble.

Same here. My dog goes with me too all of the shows. However I have seen some owners (not owners of any of the cars at the show) let their dogs **** on tires etc. They get an earful from me anytime I see that.

Mt neighbors have 2 huge dogs that are never on leashes and when you pull up the dogs jump up and rest their paws on the doors Then their kids see me at a parking lot w/ their mom,and proceed to drawing pictures on the dust of the car(This is not the stang but pi$$ed me off nonetheless

Suuure...If you were parked at a car show showing off your ride how would you like some kid sitting/walking his bike towards your car? They get too close to have a look see.Pedals, wheels and them trying to balance themselves off your car can only spell disaster.Dogs...pissing on your wheels/tires,not good. Then the dog jumps up with front paws on your car and scratches the **** out of it...ooooh!
I've seen mothers holding babies taking a look, baby puke stinks when they yack on your seats.I hope you get the picture. You take your chances at shows but for the most part people are very considerate.

It has ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to do with liability!!! 48 states have private citizens pumping their own gas, IT IS NOT A LIABILITY OR SAFETY ISSUE!!!

The problem is with the gas pumper who doesn't have any common human respect for a fellow human being or his hard earned well taken care of car, and amongst these minimum wage gas pumping employees there are far too many of them like this. The fact that two misguided states New Jersey & Oregon force every one of their citizens to be subjected to interacting with these "losers" against their will for undefined and truly indefensible reasons is CRAZY.

WTF!!! There was no "dis" of Spanish!

The inconsiderate SOB's were disrespecting their own customers and their customers car and happened to be speaking Spanish too, it is really too bad that this information offends you.

Your political correctness is offensive to me.

Bikes: Ahh.. yeah, I see.

BTW, as far as the dogs are concerned.. I was chased by two unknown sprinting dogs (from 100ft away) when I was walking to my car in a warehouse parkinglot.. stupidly, I got into my car. They kept persuing and were about 20 feet from my car by this time.. I realized that I had 2 seconds to react or else they would be on my car, clawing at my window and paint job...

I considered stepping outside and jumping away from my car and potentially getting mauled to save my paint job (or maybe it would have been licked excessively, you can never tell with unknown dogs..), for about 0.1 sec. Then started my engine and stomped on the pedal til redline.

The dogs were literally 1 foot from my car and on their hind legs, ready to "fall" onto the side of my car and begin pawing/etc, when they stopped mid air, twisted their bodies the opposite direction (while still on hind legs), and sprinted away at the same speed as soon as they heard the engine growl disapprovingly at them.

That was the one time I revved my engine past 2k RPM before warming up.. but worth it. :P

First off please don't assume anything. I never said I was offended I couldn't care what the nationality was as I stated in my response, I also never stated that the original poster dissed spanish people. I did concur regarding the fact that they disrespected his property as I stated, "There are just people out there that are inconsiderate and don't care about other's property."

I think I find you offensive kind sir.

One thing I love to do is when parents are picking up there kids to look inside the car I always offer to open the door and let the kids look in.Kids love our new Stangs and giving them a chance to have a close look really makes their day.We need car people 20 years from now and maybe turning some kid into a gearhead makes my day.

Agreed, as nationality has really very little to do with it. IMO most people today unfortunately choose to live in a self-centered valued environment, in which they have no regard or consideration towards anybody but themselves, let alone possess any values when it concerns respecting the property of others.

As for the inconsiderate person who was leaning against your Stang, chances are he did it all out of spite and jealousy, just because of the simple fact that you're able to own, and afford a Mustang, but yet he's not, due to more than likely being just a gas station attendant.

Anyway, just my $.02

+1 on that. I've even let some people sit in my car after chatting with them for a bit and hear it in their voice that they love Mustangs. That makes their day.
