Out of no disrespect, be a car guy. Self serve Gas stations only. No one has ever put anything into my car but me. I wouldn't give them a chance to get close to my car. Give your self a piece of mind and fill it your self. If you opened the cap then stick the pump nozzle in and fill it. When you say premium are you absolutely sure that’s what they’re putting into your car. If you spend lots of time waxing and cleaning why not fill it. Every one knows the only person that’s going to respect your property as much as you, is you. I know I’m sure what goes into my car and I know who’s not leaning on it.

Spanish was not the point, the added insult of them talking about him behind his back while standing in front of his face was the problem. That is simply RUDE no matter what language it is done in...

That is nice, but pumping your own gas is AGAINST THE LAW in New Jersey & Oregon too...

It is one of the dumbest most unexplainable laws on the books.

The average attendant doesn't give a hoot. It is that one in 100 who thinks he is the Command Sergeant Major of the state gas army (you know the type, the guy who couldn’t get into the military and makes everyone else pay for it every chance he gets) who gets belligerent about it. After I tell them I will pump my own and they get crappy about it, I leave and tell them why I am leaving.

It is one of the dumbest most unexplainable laws on the books.

It's not like the average attendant will mind someone else doing his job, is it?

i experinced the first time i was in jersey when my girl told me not to get out they pump it here (NJ) and told me its illegal and so forth.. TO me i thought it was freaking retarded. But i wasnt sure how strict they were. I just open the door and keep an eye on all the buttons they push and how they got the nozzle. LOL... Funny was when i go to one station where the ford gas tank problem ( where it keeps shutting off due to the spout i guess) would act up..LOL... they get mad at me.

I understand the spainsh coment but unless you speak spainsh how do you know they changed there converation and directed towards you.. To me that coulda been left out. But I have been beligrent myself at car lots/ shows etc when i see people leaning on my car because I dont even lean ont why should they.

trust me, living in new jersey I hate how this state has to have attendants to fuel your car.

due to a mishap about a year with a gas attendant at a wawa overfilling my tanks and having it spill all over my quaterpanel, I always get out and do my own pumping. unfortionately I have to use the excuse that I am firefighter or a police officer to get them to leave me the hell alone when a gas attendant gets in my face. I'd say 30% of the time I get crap from attendants who give me the, unlawful to dispense fuel. but what I dont get is this, if a motorcyclist can sit on the his bike and pump his own gas with 0 problems, why can us with cars or trucks do the same in NJ??

exactly

armycook1981, when they were talking to each other they were not looking in my direction. after i told the guy to get off they both stopped talking, looked at me, looked at each other, the "leaner" stared me down and they started talking again. i assumed it was about me. o and fyi i won that stare down. my blood pressure was probably through the ROOF, i wanted to rip his head off. i would have said "they started speaking in a foreign language" to be politically correct but i didnt think it was necessary seeing as we are all good guys here and the issue of RACE has never come up and probably never will. if i offended anyone with stating the language he was speaking, I apologize.

yea usually ill get out and pump the gas myself in NJ. i really dont care about that law and the guy making 6.75 an hour most likely doesnt either. this is a lesson learned, when i get gas at a full service station only, i pump it myself. if for some reason they DENY me doing their job for them, i move on.

dvf1973, i would have FLIPPED THE F*CK OUT!!! just thinking about it is getting my heart pumping. the nerve of people is just astounding. if people just stopped and thought about what they were doing for a SPLIT second the world would be a better place.

starts talking to him in spanish
(im not even going to go there but you get the idea). then his buddy goes to lean on my spoiler and trunk like its nothing! now my car is SPOTLESS. 95% swirl free with no scratches or anything. i baby that car like it was my own flesh and blood. i then look at him and say "um could ya...." and do the hand motion like.....get the h3ll off the car. he gives me this dirty look and i just cross my arms and stare him down slowly shaking my head. then then both look at me and start talking in spanish. now i KNOW they were talking about me but i really didnt care. what bothered me was the complete inconsideration for my property. what is the deal with everyone thinking they can sit or lean or do anything to any car they choose without feeling any remorse?!?!?

help me out here, am i just waaay too overprotective or was i right. i just need confirmation for my insanity hahahah
Have you ever been to Miami? You ask someone a question and they don't understand...This is at major stores

i just took the initiative and didnt get a spoiler. i try to not care, because if i care too much i'll be driving down the road one day and get rear ended and crack the whole car up. so why bother getting flustered.

Wow! The Jersey school system must suck if the state thinks your too dumb to pump your own gas, or is a gas pumper a union job that must be protected from outsourceing to yourself. Can you turn on your own light switches?

It's against the law to pump your own gas in the state of NJ.

From what I've heard, a senior citizen was pumping her own gas and drove away with the nozzle still in the car. This caused some sort of catastrophe which ended up turning into this law.

I'd of thrown him across the lot! ..his buddy too if he tried to 'help'.

Born and raised in South Jersey and I always pump my own gas. Very rarely have I ran into an issue with the pump *****. When I have I just go across the street to their competitor, pump my own gas, and wave.

Heck no you ain't even close to being wrong or too hard. That note ain't coming out of his pocket every month... I don't have have any qualms about telling ANYBODY to un-a$$ my ride, period. And if you want to talk smack in WHATEVER language, do your thing. But you WILL get up off my load, end of story.

On my way to Connecticut to visit the relatives I always gas up at the last station in Delaware and then I don't refuel until I hit NY. The gas jockeys couldn't care less about your car.
I think NJ tried to get rid of the law a couple of years ago, but too many women and old ladies complained that they didn't want to get their hands dirty, or it was too cold, or it was raining and that someone else can do it for them. Some of them even admitted they didn't even know where to put the nozzle in. Just an excuse. I can't see why they don't offer a self-service side and a full-service side...I'll tell you why... Because less than 1% of their population would use the self-service side and prove that most folks are able to and want to pump their own gas. I'll never live in that state (or Oregon for that matter).

dude - no one should touch the car without permission

and ESPECIALLY not lean on it

all my buddies know and acknowledge the fact that they know I will go HULK if the car is touched incorrectly - hell a girl at my job even closes the passenger car door (without being asked) by touching low on the WINDOW so she doesn't touch the paint

now THAT'S a cool chick
