Looking to export '05 V6. Things to look for and such?

Hello,
New member, but been reading for a while.

I am looking to get hold of a '05 V6 (because the GT will be too expensive for our car registration system) I can export to Norway. A V6 costing $10k will have a total price of about $45-50k after registration here is paid + shipping and taxes, a V8 will be about $15-20k more, which will be too much. What are my chances of finding a "mint" condition car with leather interior and no previous accidents (really important that it does not have a salvage title or previous damages, as I wont be able to register it - how do I know if it hasnt?) for maximum $10k online, then fly over to check it out?
How can i make absolutely sure a car is debt free, and what paperwork do I need done prior to export?
I dont know too much about the paperwork part in the states.

If i show up with cash, how quick can i normally get the car keys in my hands and ready to drive off to the port for shipping if i buy from a dealer?

I have checked out cars.com, autotrader, craigslist (good finds) and eBay, and some look good enough, but it seems as though there are very few around in the same areas (want to be able to choose between a few, since its a long flight.). Any other places to look online? It doesnt matter where in the US, but somewhere on the south east coast would be preferred (Texas, nj, fl, nc, ++). Ive been to the states 2 times for a total of 5 weeks on holiday in 2009, and I remember seeing alot more cars for sale when driving around, though it doesnt seem as most cars are put online?

If you know of a car in your area, dont hesitate to hook me up.

Only thing i require: less than ~ 80k miles, black leather interior, and a light color: silver, white, tungsten, red, blue, green or similar. And hopefully, but not likely, already gt500 converted front.
If not, i'll have to get those parts later on.

Thanks for any tips and help!

Robin.

How long does it normally take for me to get the title and Bill of sale in hand, with the car ready to drive away from the lot when I buy from a dealer?

I will be in the states for a maximum of 1 week when I go to Get a car.

Well when your at the dealership or even if you buy from a private seller then it shouldnt take more than a couple hours. Yea i know it does sound long but dealers always try to test your last nerve sometimes to see how good of a car owner you are. Oh and i would ask some frinds in the states (if you got any) to be on the lookout and ask them ti check autotrader.com to help try and find your mustang

Welcome to the site by the way! Sounds like Mustangs are taking over the world

Hi,
I have just joined this forum myself and noticed your post and what you are looking for, Did you try looking for the same car in the UK ?? I know of a few 05-06 V6 Moostangs that are for sale on different web-sites and car clubs in the uk. Seems like your Government are greedier than ours when they are looking those sort of figures on import duty, someone must need a bonus lol. Here are the detail of 1 forum based club inparticular that if you put a similar post on like the one you put here then I am sure you will be pleased with what you get. wwws197.co.uk The added fact would be that you would have a lovely long drive and ferry trip home with it. Happy hunting anyway

I don't know what they do to your roads in the winter over there, but in the northeast of the US they douse them with salt (or whatever it is they use these days). Bottom line is it destroys vehicles. A GT may have been kept parked on snowy days, but most V6 Mustangs were likely purchased as daily drivers, and an '05 will have had 6 winters under its belt. The body may be fine yet, but underneath you will probably find signs of corrosion starting, especially on the fasteners.

If you're going to the trouble and expense of importing a used car, I'd strongly recommend you look at a car from the south.

Edit: One more thing is the cinders they dump down with the salt. The car/truck in front of you kicks up a cloud of it and your paint gets blasted with the grit as you drive through.

man, how do they calculate fees higher than the price of the car???

I think a decent dealer should be able to get you a title the day you buy it- notarize/take to title office/pay tax, done...I'm sure a dealer or three will chime in on this thread sooner or later.

Thanks for the replies. Means a lot.

To sum up on some stuff...:

Getting the title on the day sounds great. How is the process exactly, and is it different when buying from say, a private person that also has a Liam on the car? If so, do i pay cash, or to his bank? (the loan follows the veichle or the person?)

I am not wrong if say the car cost 10k, I will have to pay an additional registration in the US to Get plates for it + 6-8% sales tax, which will be refunded at the customs? Or can i just pay (like here) a small fee to Get "trial plates" that Are valid just a few days? Like "export plates"?

About salt and snow. My last car was imported from Texas.
Got someone to do the Job for me, which I wont this time.
And I do have to agree. They salt the roads all around where I live all the time, and most cars Get eaten up.
6 years of salt is heavy. So yeah, back on my old car. Found it absolutely great when working on it that it had come from Texas. Especially loosening suspension bolts. But then again, I had some issues with the clearcoat peeling in small areas because of the direct sunlight over a long period (not garage kept). Been tvilling og Texas again, i see there Are some ports for shipping there aswell.

When it comes to registration here, its crazy.
You have to pay 25% tax on the initial price and shipping costs to get the car here, then when you choose to register it theres another one time fee thats Insane.
Based on weight, bhp and engine volume or weight, engine volume and CO2 emissions (which again is the cheapest solution, but no useable CO2 emmision tests that our government approves of is availible for this exact car model and make - could save me nearly 10k if it was) will be high.
There is actually only one country more expensive, Denmark.

When it comes to looking for cars closer to me, it seems as of most cars Are twice the price in europe in general, incl. England as opposed to getting it from USA.
Even by getting one myself rather than buying one preimported, but no registration fee paid directly from home will tick in at =~ $5000 more. :/

Thanks guys. Surely hope some dealers come by with advice.

Keystone: a GT would be great, especially because of the "not a daily driver" part, and Even though it would make me wait another year for the registration fees to drop (they go down a few percent each year untill the car is 14 years old, then theyre the same untill its 30 years old, then its free) so I could live with the cost of registering it, I have been looking on the GTs aswell.
Hell, I could buy a GT, then wait 3-4-5 years for my sake, as this is my dream car. And with my desired GT500 kit on it, it wouldnt really be fair to have a V6 in it anyways.
I know i could Get a hell of a lot of good work done on it, if I did that. Replace all engine, suspension, exhaust etc rubber, brakes, fix interior, upgrade sound, sound deadening inside new wheels, outside gt500 kit ++. and I bet my son would have a blast doing These things with me.

How far down could I probobly get a decent GT for? How Low is it normal to negotiate the asking price, barging and offering not to avfeie any warranty etc as the car will never see that shop again?

And one more thing, looking at craigslist and such, i notice theres a general price difference in cars. Example to me it looks like These cars Are cheaper in general in austin than in Miami. Any special reason? Any city thats a "Low price city"?

I wouldn't worry too much about the salt in the NE, I have 170K on my 05 GT as a DD & no issues of corrosion. I do take very good care of my car & am sure to hose down the under carriage on a regular basis. The newer cars are a lot better then in past years for rust prevention.

You can also save money on shipping by not using a container. With a drivable vehicle you can have it driven right onto the ship & they will secure it. Much cheaper then a container.

Good luck!

Thanks Slidejob.

Ro-Ro shipping is actually as much as $6-800 cheaper to Norway.

A driveable veihcle is a must, as i will be driving it to port myself.
Thanks for the input.

I am going to bump this, as I have spent a lot of time online looking for cars while gathering the funds to get the car (decided on a GT, a bit more pricey) and GT500 kit at the same time, I have not yet bought a vehicle.

I have found that I am able to find several 2005 GT's with black leather interior, shaker 1000, premium package and a few other things that are essential to me when buying as low as $11500 from a private party.

As I am getting closer and I find these cars from private parties i realize i never got a reply on the part about liens. How do I deal with this if the car has a lien? How long will I expect to wait before the lien is confirmed paid? And, do I pay the bank or the seller? Am i able to perform payments to a lienholder from a bank if I'm not a customer?

Also, any recomendations for insurancecompanies? I am guessing I will have to sign a temporary insurance for the time i use to drive the car to the shipping facilities and get it booked?

Again, thank you for all your inputs!
