I like that idea. I really don't want to pull my covers off and not be able to drive the car for a few days while they're getting powdercoated.
How do you think the paint will hold up?

Mine have been painted for quite a while now... almost a year and no undue wear and tear on the coat. With the exception of a scratch or two that I put on there, they look brand new... freshly painted.

Got mine done through Hatchman/Morris Powdercoating. Came out great and the only down time was while I was swapping them out.

Help me decide what color?

My car is black w/ gold shelby stripes, have a red BMR strut tower brace.

I was thinking ford blue

But how about red to match the BMR?

Or Gold to match the stripes?

I may go with the mid west intake cover, but in std. silver and black on the ribs and GT and Black powered by ford on the sides.

Your suggestions please.

I think Metallic Gold w/metal flake would look good, with Super Mirror Black a close second.

I would leave the red to just the BMR parts.

A black car w/gold stripes and red BMR parts, putting in a different color like blue would just be too many different colors, a rainbow effect.

I did a quick photo chop to see how close Metallic Gold w/metal flake was to your Gold stripes. Not real close, but still looks good.

Hope this helps.

Might just be coincidence that your car color is similar to the majority of the Shelby 350H's? I tried to find the valve cover color for those:
"4. SHELBY MAJOR ENGINE COMPONENTS

B. 1965-mid-1966 used hollow letter natural finish valve covers. Mid-1966 through 1970 used black finish valve covers on GT350's. 1967 GT500's used natural and 1968 GT500's used black. 1969-70 used natural finish. All 1965-70 valve covers used cadmium-plated standard grade 5 bolts and washers, except 1969-70 GT-500's used standard Mustang bolts. Radiator caps were zinc- or chrome-plated. Jet models had chrome radiator caps, dipstick and handle "

Would the Hertz's have black ones then...

My vote is for Gold...I have Ford Blue and I don't think it would blend well with your car.

I like the gold because it looks like the valve covers on a '65 Mustang. (not a Shelby) Black would blend in too much. Even the mirror black, IMO. (but it would be my second choice) Blue just wouldn't look right against the red/black/gold even though stock '66 Mustangs had blue covers.

I also considered gold. I ruled out black for the same reason, too much black in the engine compartment. I wish someone would make valve covers that look better than the stock ones. Anyway

I considered red to match the BMR stuff and keep it all black, chrome, and red. I see your point, keep BMR the red only stuff. You all can see my dilema.

I see you've got red brake calipers as well, and you've got enough red BMR parts on the car to justify some more red. I think that Red might work as well. You could also just make them Reflective Chrome, that goes with everything and always looks good on an engine. Chrome would be your safest bet, no worries about color matching/clashing.

Yes, a little bit of a dilema. But the good news is, anything will look 100 times better than this:

What does the emblem say on your covers?
Where did you get it?

I was also looking at a emblem. Not sure what will work and not burn or melt.

I am still on the fence, I am still leaning toward Red or Gold. I think either would stand out. Not sure what to do.

That would look SOOO retro if you painted the intake cover the same color and your CAI tube was black.
