Hi all,
My left rear shock is leaking oil, (only 5,000km's).
I know your suppose to replace shocks in a set, but I'm thinking with 5,000km's on them, should I worry about it? What if they say they'll only replace the defective shock, should I convince them otherwise?
Will the new shock make my car lob sided?

Yeah! I'm having the same problem with my right rear shock. It's leaking to the point where it's dripping. I'm pretty sure they will only replace the defective one, so I was planning on just buying both of them myself and replacing them. Unfortunately, none of the part stores carry them and the Ford dealership wants $47 for each one.
I think that's my only option though, since I just lowered it and the warranty is probably out the window.

I doubt 5000 km's will warrant replacing both shocks. They may not replace it unless the oil is running down the tube. Faint seepage is considered normal to some dealers. A new shock shouldn't set your car lopsided.

1. That the dealership will see that you installed after-market springs and void the warranty on replacing your shocks.
2. That the dealership will consider shocks "wear & tear" items and simply not attempt to cover them under warranty.
I wish ya luck!!

1 year / 12,000 miles BUMPER TO BUMPER, that means EVERYTHING, wipers, belts, shocks, any part on the vehicle. The only exceptions may be the battery and tires because they have their own warranties...
It's also a very good idea to get an alignment before the 1 year / 12,000 miles because it is FREE.
Don't take no crap from a dealer, simply point out to them what it states in black & white...
And, yes shocks should be replaced in sets because chances are the bad shock was a bad batch from the manufacture and your chances are very good the other shock is of the same batch and will fail as well...

Just found my RR shock leaking so much so that it has a pretty thick grease build up on the bottom part of the tube. Car is lowered so before I drive all the way in I'm just gonna ask if they'll cover it. Otherwise I will spring for some aftermarket shock & struts.

I whipped mine off, and it didn't seem to leak too much after that. So maybe it was sweat?? I don't know, I give up at the dealer, I'll do the same as you or just get an OEM quality one.
I've never had a Ford factory shock last more than 1 year. Typically one or more will fail allowing that side of the car to bob uncontrollably on the road. After being removed and totally compressed, the shock will not rebound and return to its free position even after waiting 7 days.
Hey Sonic Boom,
Where did you read that an alignment was free before 1yr/12000 miles? I want to have a copy of that when I take my car to the dealer next week.
Of course it may not matter. I put Eibach springs on last week and that will probably give the dealer the right to refuse a free alignment.

It's either leaking or it's not. It may not be leaking much now because it's pushed out most of the oil. If a shock is leaking, it's toast.
