I had my car parked almost all winter. I got it out this spring and after a few times driving I washed it. I noticed a black oily substance on the rear whells on the rims. I didn't pay much attention to it. Now I wash it again after about a month, and here it is again on there. When you wipe some off with your finger it feels oily and looks like used oil. Any ideas??

Have you taken a look under the car and see if it was on the axle housings and the inside of the rims as well? If so, it could be some bad seals. As you described, this doesn't sound normal.

Do you use any type of tire shine product? If so, it could be attracting brake dust?

How much of this substance is on the rims? Is it sprayed all over the rims? Did you use a tire spray that may have spun off?

Snap a photo so we can all play doctor and help.

I just washed it so it isn't there now. I will watch and when I start seeing it build up again I will take a pic. I don't use anything on my tires to shine them nor anything special to wash them with. I am calling the dealer today to make an appointment.
