Laying on the starter ?

I`ve got almost 80,000 miles on my 4.0 l and I have noticed having to lay on the starter longer to get it started. I just put in a set of NGK G-power plugs to rectify the problem but it didn`t. The NGK plugs greatly improved the way it runs though.
Any ideas ?

Your right, it was the battery !
The original battery gave up and with the new one it fires instantly.

I noticed this last year, but I was also giving odd/quick errors upon starting like "check ETC system" which would go away right away.
Was still on the original 2005 battery.

New battery, fires faster and startup errors went away.
