Latest available spark plugs for '06?

With a quick search I couldn't find any recent posts pertaining to replacement plugs for the old style 2 piece plugs (if I missed one go ahead and flame me!). Are the Autolite HT1's and the Champion 7989's still the recommended plugs for NA, CAI GT's?

Gonna try replacing them on our 12k mile '06.

I'll run a search and get some recommendations for you. Glad to see you're pulling the plugs ASAP.

From what I've read the Brisk's are basic plugs, i.e. non platinum, etc, unless they've come up with something else.

The local store (we are somewhat in the boondocks when it comes to parts stores) has the HT1's ($11.99ea) and the 7989's ($19.99ea). If these are my only realistic choices are the Champions worth twice the price? I'm not a scrimper in the spark plug department when it comes to these screwed up heads.

Thanks.

64k and I have been thinking the same thing for a while now. It may be time to change my plugs. I going to bet your 12k plugs will come right out.

I've only read good things about Brisk. There's a 1 piece NGK but from I've read it only fits the thread pattern for the Mid-08 years and later, not 05-Mid 08's. Unfortunately our options are limited for the heads we were dealt I guess.

Are the Autolites and Champions no longer recommended?

Should work fine either way. The only thing to worry about are the plugs seizing to the heads, either plug will resolve that issue as long as it's a 1 piece.

Thanks. Now I just need to know if anyone has had good or bad issue with either plug to justify spending or saving cash.

I put in the Champions at 13K AFAIK I have seen no difference from the stock plugs. Make sure you read up on the procedure. Make sure the engine is warm.

I wish I had this info before I drove to the parts store this morning. Charliehorse, is that SP509 a 1 piece? I looked at the HT1's this morning and they sure looked like a 2 piece to me (Just like the SP-462's you have pictured) so I passed and plopped down 160 bucks for the Champions.

The SP509's are half the price of the Champions so I ordered a set and will wait until I see the Motorcrafts. Are you running the 509's?

I'm sorry as I am confused. Looks like 2 totally different thread designs to me for 2 different heads. Charlie has a '08 Bullit, with the newer heads, we have the origonal '06 design, for the older plugs. Be I wrong??????

Splice the two plugs even to see what I mean.

This car is becoming a love/hate relationship.

O man - I'm sorry. I was half asleep when I posted that. Yes actually that shows the difference for the new head (12.07) on the left, the older 2 piece on the right.

But seems like they made a 1 piece for the old heads as replacement. I'd check with ford for part number and go from there.

Follow that tsb to use the anti-seize. Not on the threads but on the long barrel as I remember.

That's why I got the Champion one-piece, and pulled the 2 piece plugs. They make 1 piece for the newer heads, but anyone else besides Champion I have not found.

That's what I thought... the 1 piece for the OLD heads still have the long barrel that you put some anti-seize on right?

I'm gonna delete that pic so I don't cause anyone else confusion. Again - mega apologies. Never post before coffee!

Yep. nickle anti-seize on everything sparingly below the threads.
