There is no replacement for displacement It would only take a minimal ammount of extra room for the 'footprint' of the engine, say about an extra 1" all around to make the block low, with room to spare and get 6.5+L out of it. It should not weigh any sizeable ammount more either(another common misconception). The stroke on the 5.4 is an obnoxious 4"+ There is plenty of room in the new Stang for it(the hurricane).


I would add to the line:
6.2 Hurricane 427 sedan-(Duratec 35 base engine) For 07. AWD by 08
Add the D35 to the 500/Freestyle/Fusion/Escape(225-260 hp for the small-larger vehicles) by 06
Hybrid Fusion and Freestyle by 07
4.0 3v and 4.6 3v for Explorer by 06
Build a Mustang-based wild Forty-nine coupe/vert with the 6.2 For 07
Build a couple luxo coupes-verts(Cougar mild/Conti wild for Merc-Lincoln) by 08
Add the Bronco with the D35 and a small diesel for 07-08
All the F-series/Expeds get the 6.2(5.4 3v base) By 08

Plus all the other goodies comming down the pipe, but thats just me

I wouldn't be too sure about that. The HEMI (semi-hemi, really) is definitely a powerful engine, but none of the cars it is used in is fast. It's a shame that they take a powerful engine and can only find a place for it in cars that weigh in at at least 4,000+ with driver. Not only that, but the HEMI is a pretty expensive option in the 300 and Magnum, as well. The truth is that there isn't really any true competition for the 4.6 3V right now.

The 6.2 is targeting 425 hp N/A with simillar to 5.4 gas mileage. The idea is to make Dodge and Chevy have to start again to catch up. Chevy has been milking the same engine for 45+years. The semi-hemi is all but topped out at 360hp in a streetable cost effective trim. You cant add an extra pair of cams to the semi-hemi and cheby stuff. This will be a cammer with displacement 2v/3v/4v DOHC, pick your weapon.

That's right. The mod motor architecture is a dead end for large displacement. The only way is more stroke and thus taller and taller motors. I think the 5.4 has a longer stroke than the BB460s and Chevy 502. I'm amazed they got 6500rpm out the GT motor.

The new Hurricane series will have much wider bore spacing allowing for big bore short stroke motors for RWD. Combine that with 3V OHC and you've got a high revving powerhouse. And once you change bore spacing, you can't use a previous series motors' heads. [/b][/quote]

would be nice if kevin is right. guess we will have to wait and see. shame ford didnt start this engine program sooner to be ready for the 05 stang and F150

Maybe with the new engine, with a smaller deck height. Possibly a SRT-8 Fighter as in SVT LS??!

Maybe with this new engine in a mustang, we could see history repeat itself....as in ten years ago,when the SN95 came out and had the 5.0 for the 94-95 model year and was phased out of factory stangs and replaced by the 4.6 modular in 96.
Also, with this new big dsplacement engine in stangs, we could see a rebirth of the BOSS 302, 351 (perhaps 429?) and maybe even a MACH 1 with a 351 or larger cube motor in it and pushing 500+hp.

Agreed

I'm guessing we'll see the first examples of these engines in an SE (SVT or Shelby) followed by a more civilized version in the GT and other models.

The rumors that I have seen are that the 6.2 Huricane is a scaled up 5.4L that has a 110mm bore spacing (vs. 100mm of the 4.6 & 5.4) and it uses the same 105.66 mm stroke.

If this is the case, the maximum bore that a Huricane could have would be about 100.2mm (~3.94").

A low deck version of the Huricane, 90mm stroke, 100 mm bore x 90mm stroke - 5.7L, 345 cu inch would be the ticket.


Do you have any solid info. as to what the bore & stroke capabilities of the Huricane really are?

well if its an OHC motor, im sure you could think of it as a scaled up 5.4, the idea is the same. I heard it was to be all new and much more flexible then the modulars now. Scaling up the 5.4 wouldnt solve much of anything and would be short-term thinking. Anyone with half a brain would avoid such a limited design as the modulars now.

Well the LS2 is still a 4.4" bore spacing and the Hemi is 4.46"

If the current mod motors are 100mm that is 3.94" and an increase to 110mm would be 4.33"

So why the heck would you go smaller than the current competition when bore spacing was the major weakness of the mod motors to begin with? Maybe the increase to 110mm doesn't require total retooling of all the engine facilities.

Bigger is better. Big Bore, short stroke, sounds alot like the old 427s.

Need I say more?

I look forward to seeing the development on it. But if it is all new, 07 sounds a bit early on it being in production doesn't it?
