I understand grantsdales example was for illistration only but the profit ford makes on a 25K mustang is closer to 10K

Forget the price of the IUP option. Take the cost of the car. Say ford makes $3000 off a v6 and $5000 off a GT. They can sell the GTs with the IUP and make $5000 each or the v6s with IUP and make $3000 each. Which do you think a company would go for?
As far as the "building to crush", they have to do that. The fed standards say they have to crush cars with the options included. The IUP is necessary for this because of the side airbags, which you can't get without the IUP.
Its a parts shortage. Its nothing they knew about in advance. In any business, when you run into a shortage of product, you are going to move it where you need it most. That would be where you have the most profit for the product.

And the money Ford makes off the GT vs the V6 has nothing to do with it. Let's say that there are 25,000 IUP spots. If there are 35,000 pre-ordered with already 25,000 IUP packages ordered. Say that 15,000 are the GT & 10,000 are the V6. So what. Say the of the 10,000 V6's ordered the IUP that 8,000 also ordered the interior accent & side airbags. Well if Ford then tells those 10,000 that they can't have their car with the IUP well there goes the 8,000 with the interior accent package & the side airbags.
Now say that Ford gives the 10,000 spots to the GT & only 5,000 order the interior accent & side airbags. Well, hello, there is money lost on those packages & without the IUP they can have NO MORE ordered with those seperate packages.
Now they are left with the materials for those packages that they can use. Money is lost. Also if the IUP was a make or break deal for 6,000 of the pre-ordered V6 buyers then there is 6,000 lost customers.
You know what. Just forget it. Either way I think it is a no win situation for both customers & ford.

I would think that the larger you can make anything in volume the more cost effective it is. Since the volume of stang sales are V6's wouldnt it be cost effective for ford to offer the IUP on it? I dont think ford will add anything to a car that they lose money on.
I.E.;
I dont think they are losing money on the Mach 1000, the optional wheels, the Interior Color Accent Package, Wheel Locking Kits, Active Anti-Theft System, Front Seat Side-Mounted Air Bags, Spoiler Delete Option, 5R55S 5-Speed Automatic Transmission. Options are traditionally money makers for manufactuers.
I dont think they would choose to lose money on the IUP option then?

I made the numbers up, but I'm sure ford gets a couple extra thousand on a gt over a v6.

"some" of us are not "less fortunate" to be getting a v6.
I want one, I am buying it, end of story. Sorry. No misfortune here.

Again. I am sorry about that. I really didn't mean to offend anyone or make anyone mad at me. Sorry.

Sorry myself, I am running on no sleep. I didn't see you ordered a v6.
I must be one of the few who actually "want" the v6. I just can't justify spending nearly ten grand more for the "sound" which would be the only reason I would go GT. I like the look at me options on the v6 ever so much better.
I dont want high dollar insurance either, that would cut into my shopping money.
If IUP is not offered by the end of January, when I was planning to order then I just don't know what to do. Honestly. First I would be angry I didnt get the comp. orange 04 then I would be angry for waiting on a vanilla flavored car. If it isn't then I will most likely get the title of first MS member to take delivery on a 06(Tungsten please)....

I amazed at how little salesmen know and how many people take what they say for gospel.
