All orders are accepted. When the vehicle is serialized with a vin #, If a hold exists, thats when you'll here about it.

should i be worried that i still do not have a VIN number when i ordered in early september?

I figured i just hadn't received one due to either the IUP hold or the V6 manual hold.

Having a vin # means your order has been serialized and submitted to the plant. The next step, barring any holds, you will receive a build date.

Well I just got "THE CALL" from my dealer. I ordered my V6 Oct.19, today I found out that I am a victim of the IUP material hold . Dealer told me that the hold is dated until Dec. and that it is due to the LED's in the MYCOLOR option. Also said that if I decided to remove the IUP I could have the card in 6-8 weeks. I really want this car ASAP but I think I'll wait. I mean why buy something your not gonna be 100% happy with??? But it will drive me crazy to see them driving around !!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO!!????

i am in the same boat as you! But i now believe that if you don't get it exactly how you want it, just so you can get it a few weeks early is not worth it in the long run, my luck is if i would have chosen not to wait for the IUP then one day i would see an 05 exactly like mine but WITH the IUP and i don't think i could handle that...so wait, it won't be that long, just longer than what you were hoping for.

so a vin does not signify it has started being built?

I dunno about a "hold" but the dealer I was at last night said that Ford is telling them not to order with IUP if possible because they can't fill the demand for it. They told me if I ordered right now it would take much less time to get it without IUP than with it.

No...The VIN tells you that Ford has got your order and assigned it the VIN to track it thru the whole process. You have a vehicle for all intents and purposes. You need to check the status with your dealer to get the build date, produced date, and finally the shipped date. What you may find is that you might get a hold status for things like the IUP. This can be a long process. You are going to be one happy camper once the vehicle moves from being a number to an actual physical Mustang under you control.
