According to Auto Report, Ford registered trademarks for California Special and GT/CS on January 4, 2005.
OK, you heard it from me first. Not that I like fast trucks. But, the Triton Force listed on that same trade mark list will be the next lightning. Here's my list:
Triton Force - 2007 lightning w/5.4 supercharger (I know they say it's dead, but will see)
Shelby Cobra - 2007 Shelby Cobra w/5.0 cammer (gutted just like GTr but street legal)
California Special - 2007 GT/CS w/4.6 supercharger produced by SVT
Mustang GT - 4.6 engine
Mustang - 4.0
I'm not a fan of the lightning, but It'll make many people happy. If you get into the svt website (dosn't always pop up the correct way/need to see mountains on top) they say new and exciting things are about to happen.

Nice Find.
That would have been one of the last names I would have thought they would resurrect.

I agree.
And I got excited for a moment looking at some of the other Ford Trademark names . . . until I realized they were for AU & NZ.
Here's a commercial from the 60's for the GT/CS mustang. Might show what some of the looks of a new GT/CS would look like. I think John Kerry is in the add. I wonder if he has his flip flops on. Get it, Flip Flops.

I think it's pretty cool. I like the GT/CS name. Something different. We've seen the Boss, Bullitt, Cobra, SE, SVT, Mach, GT. What am I missing? Anyway, it's just something different. If they are keeping with the retro theme, the GT/CS sure fits. Just my opinion.
I don't see why Ford would make a new California Special because first of all Ford didn't originally produce them, they were all special dealer package cars sold in California as was the similar High Country Specials and all the other promotions that a lot of dealers created. And secondly I don't see too many people outside of California really caring to rush out and buy a "California Special" Mustang.
where's the Boss at? or at least a luxury Grande package....
