I don't see why Ford would make a new California Special because first of all Ford didn't originally produce them, they were all special dealer package cars sold in California as was the similar High Country Specials and all the other promotions that a lot of dealers created. And secondly I don't see too many people outside of California really caring to rush out and buy a "California Special" Mustang.

where's the Boss at? or at least a luxury Grande package....

I think if 3000 - 4000 were produced, Ford wouldn't have a problem selling them. And if it's a svt model, they will be hard to get. I agree, there could be a cooler sounding name for a SVT model. But what ever they call it, they won't have a problem selling it at all.

I'm betting the CS won't be an SVT badged vehicle. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's nothing more than an option package without any additional peformance over the GT (or at most a marginal power increase like the Bullitt).

I agree with Tom Servo on the power aspect.

I thought that the Hurricane was the code name for the new 6.2L Triton V8 Ford is working on, not the Lightning? Although it is entirely possible I am wrong.

I personally think the California Special would be a great SE edition, with so many automakers switching over to Letter/Number names for their cars, it's nice to see somebody sticking with something classy (I can understand Cadillac's vision for the future, but to go from Fleetwood Brougham, Eldorado, Seville, and Deville, to XLR, CTS, DTS...I am sorry, that just doesn't speak to me as a car enthusiast).

The Hurricane was cancelled a couple weeks ago, there's a thread about it somewhere in the Other Fords forum. Ford was saying they feel this whole big-engine, hemi craze thing is just a fad, and that it would just be wiser for them to put the extra money into developing their new v6.

I think California Special would be a perfect name for a hybrid mustang, lets say a v6 plus electric motor, like the Honda Accord hybrid (0-60mph in 6 seconds or so). This car would only be offered in California and the other states up in new england that have the same strict emissions regulations. oh ya, Canada too!

Please do something like this, Ford. Otherwise, I might never own a mustang...

Actually, Ford did make the California Specials specifically for the California DSOs. Ford also made the High Country Specials and they got unique paint colors.

Interesting to note that the California Special died due to lack of sales. I wonder if the Twister Special has crossed their minds yet?

Here's a commercial from the 60's for the GT/CS mustang. Might show what some of the looks of a new GT/CS would look like. I think John Kerry is in the add. I wonder if he has his flip flops on. Get it, Flip Flops.

I think the idea is pretty solid...make a few thousand, sell 'em in Cali (which is a pretty big economy in of itself) and maybe maybe make 'em hybrids or somesuch...

California Special just screams convertible to me. When I think California I think of sun and beaches, and what is more convertible than that?

I have no trouble believing Ford could simply put a "Shelby" style light/roll bar inside the car, add a special wheel and tire package along with a special color combo, and sell every one they can make.

That said, I am sure the actual car will be a coupe if it happens.

maybe it will be a scoop/stripe/wheel package available on both

that would be cool especially if theres a minor performance bump too

Now that is one sweet looking ride!
It's gotta have the rear lights like the old C/S and maybe some rectangular fogs. This car would kick some serious ****

They could always do the "GT/DS". The Mustang GT "Dirty South" edition. Just Kidding.

but im left to wonder. will the GT/CS be a a true GT or a V6, or something all its own. i do like the idea of a slightly higher up V6 with some performance goodies. hmm...

also, this just popped into me head, what if ford upped the hp/tq of both the GT n V6 by like 50hp/50tq but still advertised em as what they are now :P take that insurance! plus it'd give a much more competitive V6, which is even better for the mustang hobby sontcha think?

I'm planning on adding the twister side stripes. I found a chopped photo a while back and really liked it. Would be a nice addition anyways.
