So I call my insurance co. yesterday to switch it over to my new mustang. I had a 03 civic ex prior, so I asked the lady about how much it is going to go up. She said she'd call me back and let me know. she calls back and ask's me to repeat my vin, and pauses for a moment. "Hmm, your not going to believe this...your rates are going to drop!"

Who'd a thunk it, my insurance is cheaper with the new GT than with my econo box.

Just one more good reason to justify the purchase, as if I really needed any.

Have I mentioned, MY GOD I LOVE THIS CAR!

Did you get the side airbags? That could make the rates go down.

I have to say, I'm a bit irked at some of these quoted rates I see posted. I am either getting ripped off, and I have checked with several to get the lowest rate, or these policies are minumal coverage. I'm 34, male, 1 ticket about to drop off, no claims, multi-car discount, homeowners ins. is with them, married, 3 children under age 9, and my 05 GT with full coverage 300/100/50, uninsured motorist, rental, $500 deduct., blah, blah is $650.00 per six months. It went up by about $400.00 from my 03 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd Quad Cab w/ Hemi. If anyone knows a way I can reduce this rate....PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Dude... where do you live?
I have my 05 down as my main driver, and I still have collision on my "classic" Caddy and its abbout $1350/yr. for both, if I'm reading my bill right. Probably 'cause I'm getting to be an old fart   c:

Doug....I say don't believe everything you read and/or hear regarding others 'Claims' of low insurance rates. Protect your assets.....because chances are that those with low rates aren't adequately insured.

The problem w/ comparing insurance is that there are to many variables that go into your rate that affect it more than just if you have a few points. Age is huge, location is big, multicar discount, and if those points are from an accident vs a speeding ticket. Don't get to discouraged is someone has a cheaper rate than you, the only real way to make sure you are getting your best rate is to shop around with a few different insurance companies. Yes it takes time, but can save you big $$$.

Also, I really would recommend that if you don't have GAP insurance provided by your lended that you pay a little extra to your insurance company. Its very cheap and can save you thousands if some idiot plows into your car. Just my $.02

I agree and well worth your $.02.

I does take some time to check rates but it would be well worth it in the long run

Maybe we need a list of companies to use for comparison

I have looked at Allstate (my current provider), Geico and Progressive. All three are within a few $$$ per 6 months.

I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago, and it seems that the insurance companies may have downgraded the rates recently. I believe the GT status was a 24 and is now a 19. There was not much of a cost difference between the V6 and GT..More the reason to go with the GT, if your finances can handle the 4-5K.

I pay $977 a year for full coverage and that brakes down to 81.40 per month. That is with gap ins and high levels of coverage. I have a $500 deductable on collision and $100 on comprehensive. I have a clean driving record and no accidents. This is on an 05 GT premium with side air bags.

I am 20 years old, one accident when i was 16, not sure if its on my record or not, i have 500/500 deductibles and 300,000/300,000 on bodily, etc. and on my 2005 V-6 stang it is 200 p/month which only went up 25 p/month from my 01 explorer sport but its only 25 more b/c i switched to Geico and they were great! I dont think 2400 is too bad for a year.

I have AmEx insurance through Costco. Check them out...when I first moved to Colorado, they had every other quote beat by at least 200 a year.

33 years old, $500 deductable, gap, rental and don't recal the specific numbers but have very good coverage. Was paying $480ish/6 mos. on the Honda, curious how much lower it will go.

I also have a few discounts, been with Mercury for years. Good driver, repeat customer (or whatever they call that) low miliage ect. I have not had a single speeding ticket in probably 6 years, and only 4 ever. Was in an accident in 03 but was not at fault. My rates drop just about every year, with only a minor bump up I think in 03 when everyones rates went up.

On a side note, I remember seeing a list of highest cost to ensure vehicles, and if memory serves mustangs were on that list.
