Inside turn signal acting funky

I did a quick search and didn't see this problem mentioned before. My inside turn signal acts funky from time to time. Basically, what happens is the turn signal noise (that awfully annoying clacking sound) sometimes skips, or basically doesn't make its sound when it's supposed to. At the same time, the inside turn signal light also skips. Now, while all of this is going on, the outside turn signals are functioning properly. I was parked behind a shiny, well-waxed vehicle at a traffic light waiting to turn and could see my lights in the reflection from their rear, and noticed my outside marker was flashing properly even while the inside marker and noise did not.

Anyone else experience this problem? Any ideas what could be causing it? I'm not too worried about it since the outside markers are working fine, and that's more important.
