Mike, sorry to see that, she will get fixed right up and fresh paint looking new again. Good luck with the repairs. Glad you were not seriously injured.

At the shop

Took her to the dealership and got back the estimate… 3,000 Dinars ($10,400)! They will replace the bumper, fender, hood, unibody, radiator brackets, wheel well and tire. The workshop manager is a friend of mine and he promised that I wouldn’t be able to tell anything ever happened to the car. Lets hope that’s true. Again I wish to thank everyone for your support and hopefully I wont have any more issues to raise here about the repair (wishful thinking I know).
Cheers,
Mike

that's an outrageous quote Mike..
when i last checked the prices of front end parts (to sell my take offs) the dealership quoted me the following for brand new parts before discount (prices are in AED):

bumper: 2750 (cover, isolator and brakets)
Fender: 2500
headlight: 785
RH, LH fog lamps: 1000
Upper Grille: 500
Lower Grille: 175
Hood: 2900
Rim: 1100
that adds up to 11710 Dhs or 3,200 dollars.
seems like they're charging 7,000 dollars for the labor!

i would seriously consider a GT500 upgrade!
ask your dealer about it.. it's all Ford Genuine parts

Just got back from the dealership where I enquired about that high estimate. Well as it turns out this is standard practice here, they always quote more than it will actually cost as part of the negotiations with the insurance company They actually believe it will cost around 2000 Dinars ($7,000) to repair, but asked for the extra 1,000 Dinars ($3,400) to gain leverage in negotiations. Oddly enough I’m not involved in negotiations with the insurance company at all. Its entirely between the dealership and the insurance company, and thankfully I know the workshop manager very well. It’s a very strange system here.
I asked about bumper/hood upgrades or GT500 conversion and was told I would have to wait for them to be shipped in. I’ve already gone through that when my convertible top crapped out after 45 days of owning the car and had to wait two months until the new top was shipped in. I wouldn’t want to wait 2 months without the car. Although he did mention that they did have a FRPP stinger sitting in the back, and that my exhaust looks like it suffered a lot of “emotional trauma†in the accident.

Did not notice anything else with the attached undercarriage pics. The welding of the chassis connections seem undisturbed.

Oh I will definitely take them up on the exhaust offer, given that’s its free and all, I’d be a retard not to jump all over this. Congrats for the GT500 I’M GREEN with ENVY by the way .

Thanks. Angel was a year old on May 27th. Although it still feels like I just got her. Back in early '05 upon getting my first GT, never thought one day there would even be a new Shelby.

The Shelby GT aforementioned was that of a Work Mate. The GT500 of mine is soon going to be quiet no more.

I finally got my internal repair estimate at the dealership (not the BS they claimed from the insurance). It will cost them 1774 Dinars ($6,200). They are replacing a ton of stuff, I’m happy that nothing will be bent back into shape.

They are the best. My hood, bumper, and fenders had many chips, but now I'll have new shiny ones. If all goes according to plan she'll be out of the shop Saturday or Sunday (weekends here are different ).

As you might expect one of the first thing I'll want to do is wax her. I've read in many posts people saying its ok to wax your new stang the day you get it. Does this apply to my situation also?

I would hold off until the paint cures if it was my car.

How long is that? How will I know its cured? The temperature here is currently between 110F in the evening to over 140F in the day (not sure if that helps).

Is there a chance that the dealership paints the same way the factory does, which apparently doesn't need curing time. Not sure what that would require. I do think I saw what looked like a big car oven. If indeed it is baked, does that mean its cured enough? I'll ask them if they bake it. Mmmmmm smells yummy ...

Boy, can I relate to what you are feeling. I hit a deer within a few months of getting mine. I was numb, sick, etc. Almost got it stopped intime, but barely hit it and upended the deer onto my hood. Had some hood, bumper and grille damage and quite a bit was smashed underneath the hood. It was around $1800 damage but it was repaired good as new. Your's will too. I learned that having the OEM clause in my insurance policy was a very good move!

Mike, I certainly hope they can fix it to your satisfaction...one time I had a tour in Honduras and I was thankful that I brought a "beater" with me...there wasn't a body shop around that could do a decent job (and I saw a lot of their jobs driving around...horrible paint jobs, mechanical FUBARs, etc.).

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

(You may want to just get it fixed to the bare minumum and then pick up a new Stang)

The sole Ford dealership here is more professional and impressive than any Ford dealership I’ve encountered in my native Canada. The workshop manager used to run Audi of London and most of workers are Master Technicians (takes about 5 years of training and courses from Ford). I’m extremely confident that they are doing a great job (been monitoring their progress daily). More importantly they are replacing all damaged parts, nothing is getting fixed. As for the paint job, that’s already done and it looks marvelous.
Honduras is a seriously backward, under developed, and destitute country. Kuwait is one of the richest countries in the world. Seeing multiple Ferraris and Lamborghinis on any given road is very normal. Bentleys, Masseratis, Jaguars, Lexus everywhere you look. Without exaggeration I would say the average car on the road is a 2 year old Benz and the poorer man’s car is a 5 year old BMW. Its unlike any other place in the world in terms of nice cars. I’ve also been to Monte Carlo, Monaco and even that doesn’t compare to Kuwait.

Mike, roger that...during the Gulf War I was able to make some short visits to Dubai, Abu-Dhabi (UAE) and I was impressed with what I saw...but I also saw a great deal of the workers...and most of them come from Pakistan, India, etc.,...let's hope the workshop manager stays on their toes!

I've also been to Monte Carlo (during numerous USN Mediterranean deployments)...and to make that comparison...I guess I would have to see Kuwait City for myself.

BTW, are you working for the Canadian govt (i.e. embassy, etc.) or in business for yourself?

Oh man, you need to come for a second visit. Gulf war 1 is so long ago. Most of the boom in construction and infrastructure came after the war. Dubai is the most impressive in terms of infrastructure, but Kuwait is the richest and most opulent. As far as the quality of workmanship goes, you get what you pay for. There are 1 billion Indians, and not all are surgeons, however Ford and Aston Martin (the only dealerships I've done business with here) hire the very best and pay much more than the standard labor salary. Those workers you've encountered are probably construction workers, they are sadly the lowest rung on the ladder, are uneducated, and are paid atrociously low salaries ($180/month).

I’m not affiliated with any government or military. I’m a peaceful capitalist working in private equity.
