Enjoy what you got!

For me, there's been five Mustangs and four of them have been manuals. Never regretted it at all. Wish the first one had been a manual too!

5spd. Is there any other way? Leave the auto in the SUV.

I ordered my '00 Z28 with a stick, loved it sometimes, but after having the car a few months I wished I had ordered the auto. Fast forward to '08, after much agonizing I order my GT with an auto, later wish I had ordered the stick. The answer is more money so I can keep the auto and buy another one with a stick.

This car started out as a 5 speed manual...swapped in a 4r70w with manual valve-body....better for racing...jsut sold the 4r and put in a 2 speed powerglide. It's an R & D vehicle so we're being a bit unorthodox. My last 2 daily drivers were manuals without an automatic option. Looking for another daily, similar to the last two (no automatic version)

I will admit to occasionally missing the manual tranny - after having a new '86 GT and a new '89 GT, both manuals, but I do NOT miss the stick in heavy, bumper to bumper traffic. Quite pleased with the auto this time around.

Cool "Times Have Changed"

"How Sweet It Really Is". The whole beauty of the Mustang 5-speed manual setup in these S-197's is this. The hydro link clutch pedal system is now so very easy and quite painless to operate. And the factory short shifter is so buttery smooth, your can now shift with your finger tips if you like!

Back in the day when we built Mustang street rods, they almost required a sand bag on your foot to keep that comp clutch pedal down to the floor! And we all installed those nice comp stick shifters. They too almost required some work outs at the gym! This to keep one's grip strong enough for those full blown power shifts when out there racing!

It is all relative after all. Sometimes we don't always understand just how very good chocolate can be, untill one has tasted some of that mud in life!

So life can be very good now with the S-197's 5-speed sticks! And they are just a complete blast to drive and enjoy almost everyday! CalStang

I have a confession, I'm a manual snob...I would never even consider buying a car with an automatic transmission. To me, shifting yourself is integral to the art of driving.

took me a few months to find mine because of the same problem. for some reason, an 06 black on black 5 speed GT was just IMPOSSIBLE to find! almost all the dealerships, for every one 5 speed theyd have five autos. i asked every time....doesnt anyone want a stick anymore? they all said the same thing, yes they do, thats why were out of them! hahahah thankfully i got mine just by letting my fingers do the walking. bought the car sight unseen. it was being hauled to the dealership as i was signing the papers. a few days later, she was mine.

my first manual transmission but certainly not my last! love every minute in the drivers seat!

I fixed the whole wife things also. I told her not to drive it. She can drive her five hundred awd limited or her caliber r/t.
Or you could get a wife that loves to shift.

There have been so many times on this site where I wanted to internet flame some stranger for driving/owning/buying an automatic (insert "my mom drives an automatic" joke here) but I have resisted because that's not what this site is about and it's really hard to convey joking sarcasm in text...to strangers. Truthfully, I can't fathom why any auto enthusiast would buy a Mustang GT automatic unless they have some painful physical disorder that prevents them from shifting.

Apparently, some wives qualify as a painful physical disorder that prevent their men from shifting.

Seriously, other people’s transmissions really elicit such a visceral response from you?

LOL @ the Wives comment though!

I'd never go without a manual fun car again. And no shifttronic faiggotry either. It makes you way more connected with the vehicle and in control of whats going on. 10000 times more fun than automatic.

Unsubscribing, this has turned into another "I drive a stick because I need to compensate thread".
