Umm....I haven't seen either in any new cars for the past 5 years. Only the 12V AC adapter remains to power all the electrical gadgets you want in the car.

Just seems like a general move in the auto industry.

Just to clear the air (pun intended . . . ), I don't smoke and neither do any of my friends. But, I was genuinely surprised not to find a lighter and ashtray it the Mustang. The lighter makes an additional power point and the ashtray makes a great little cubby hole for small stuff.
Last new car I bought was a '97 Honda del Sol VTEC and it has a lighter/ashtray. Last new truck I bought was a '03 Dodge 2500 Cummins and it has a lighter/ashtry.
Who knew

I smoke, but I never use the ashe tray..... it makes the vehicle smell like absolute doo doo. flick your ashes out the window.... and if you don't wan't to pitch the butt, you can field strip the cherry and pocket the butt until you get out...... but I just pitch mine out the window.

....waiting for the blowtorch

I don't smoke, but have always used the ashtray as a garbage can (yes a very small one). My 1998 still came with Lighter & Ashtray, but I had to order one for my 2004 ... it is just a round insert that goes in one of the cup holders (sames part as what came in all 98's).

I would guess that Ford is again offering something like this for the 2005 (cost on ash tray was around $10-12). Also on my '04, one of the power points will still accept a lighter ... are you sure this is not still the case on the 2005 ??

I'm a smoker, but I refuse to smoke in my car. On a road trip, the wife's bladder will last about as long as my willpower to go without a smoke.

We stop, she pees, I step outside for a smoke, all is good.

I picked up my GT yesterday (in the Bahamas) I knew something was strange but couldn't place it and I was going to check the pictures on this site. I have a lighter and ashtray. The lighter is where you guys have the outlet cover on the dash. The ashtray has a hinged cover and fits in the cupholder.

:flame2:

I hate seeing all the butts on the ground at a left turn lane. I even had one person flick their butt and it bounced right into my fresh air vent intake. That really ticked me off. I have always wanted to take a bunch of butts from the street and throw them in the yard of a person who flicks it on the street. That or when I see someone throw a butt on the street at a stop light, I would run out and pick it up and throw it back in their vehicle.

As long as you don't throw a lit butt out into the grass or dry leaves. Those people amaze me. I have seen it before. And I doubt it will be the last time.

I smoke, and in my other cars I have cola cans in my cup holder. Fill it with some cleaner, like windex... Keeps the smell WAY down. Also, I dont have to worry about it being open, or emptying it. Just threw the can out.

However, having not smoked in my 05, I havent noticed.

I dont throw butts out the window. If you get caught doing that in Cali, its a hefty fine for "not disposing of an ingnited item properly."

What's the point of having that HEPA cabin air filter (page 31 of owners manual ) if you're going to put smoke in the car??
