OK I know this is gonna sound strange, believe me, I find it strange and its happening to me !!!

I was on my way to work this morning when I heard a slight "ting" sound coming from the front of the car. Turned down the radio to listen. The I heard a "click" coming from my dash, followed about 3 seconds later by the "ting" sound again...
I was in traffic and moving slow and it kept on happening....click... 3 seconds later...ting... This went on all the way to work !! It didn't speed up or slow down with the speed of the car and happened at about 2 minute intervals. I did NOT have the AC on. But it almost sounds to me like a switch going on ??
Any ideas???? Its driving me NUTS !!!

Mine does it as long as something is on (fan, heater, a/c), doesn't have to be the a/c. Noisy darn clutch assemble in the unit, isn't it.

If you turn everything off - straight up position - it shouldn't do it anymore. I am going to complain when I take mine in. I believe other members have complained and Ford replaced the unit.

See if it makes any noise tonight when all is off - no fan, a/c etc. - completely off. Just noticed your in Canada ... I'm in Texas and it's 103 degrees. I guess you won't need the A/C tonight Let me know tomorrow if that stops the noise.

Good luck and I hope that is all it is.

Oh yeah, how many miles on your Stang? How long have you had her?

Does anyone else's clutch make a light clicking sounds when depressed? If I push it in real softly, it doesn't do it, but in normal driving a get a real light click from the clutch pedal everytime I shift.

Tim, I wasn't referring to the clutch for the transmission. I was referring the a/c clutch which seems to turn on and off even when not using the a/c. The only time the a/c clutch doesn't click is when I have everything off with the HVAC system.

I know...and my a/c clutch does the same thing. I just thought while we were talking about strange clicks, groans, grunts, and noises in general, I would ask about another that I have.

Are you sure it isn't the clutch interlock?

As a matter of fact I usually need the AC at this time of year...My igloo has melted and the dog teams are hibernating for the summer ... Just kidding... I got the car Nov. 20....when the igloo was still frozen. I have just under 7,000km (4,500 miles) I still can't get the metric crap... 103 degrees = 39.44 celcius...HOT stuff !!

It lets the computer know when the clutch is depressed. ie to start car or shut off cruise control (doesn't work that well)
Michael
Not a dumb question at all!

flight96, I can relate. I lived in Alaska for a good chunk of my life. In the Summer when it was 80 degrees it was hot! And I still have trouble with the degrees/celcius stuff. All I know is 0 degrees celcius is 32 degrees farenheight and anything above that means no more ice!

KansasCityTim, that click is definitely the clutch interlock. If I listen for it, I hear it whenever I push the clutch in fast or normally. Completely normal. Some will be quieter and some louder than others. When you push it softly, you'll "feel" the click more than hear it.

Riiiiight, just cause we are in Canada, means its always cold.

Newsflash Captain Texas...but it hits triple digits here too. And thats without the humidex. Our igloos are built to withstand it.

I noticed the same noise coming from the engine compartment when my car is running, just as if the AC compressor was turning on/off every 30 seconds, but my AC wasn't on. I find the noise annoying, especially when the top is down. I haven't tried turning off the fan yet....but will give that a shot.

This noise has nothing to do with the clutch pedal....it occurs when the car is running in neutral sitting in my driveway, or out on the road driving.
