With my Saleen s/c installed, the stock liner tore and I still had issues using the WMS liner. Finally had the underside painted black. The underside of my hood where the stock liner fit was about 75% painted with the primer showing around all the edges of the indents, etc.

I'm going to guess you didn't have the lowering mounts? Mine got torn up with a plenum cover and braided hoses along with it sagging. After installing lowering mounts I don't thing it was rubbing anywhere, but it was too late, already looked like crap.

I just had a JLT CAI installed and within a week a hole is being rubbed on the Liner so that sucker (Liner) is going to be ripped off. I hope mine is painted fairly good underneath, I am not good at painting at all...LOL

About a month ago, I installed a Ford GT/CS hood scoop. The underside of my hood was painted. After reading this thread, I decided to leave the liner off. Looked much better.
Well, today I popped the hood to fill up on windshield washer fluid and noticed that the paint in the middle of the underside ( right above the plenum cover ) has discolored and is now has a beige/gold tint. This has happened within the last week, because I washed the car last Saturday, and the underside was OK.
Could this be an issue with engine heat ?

Not sure. I have put close to 7,000km on my car (long road trips and hot days of close to 100 degrees) and mine still looks like the day I painted it.

Is there someway of getting the clips off without destroying them in case you want to put the liner back on?

They can be a little difficult. There's a trim removal tool that you might find helpful. I'm into making my own tools - might want to get an old dinner fork and cut out one of the prongs. Slide it under and pry/lift. Not sure if it'd work, but it's worth a shot. Otherwise, don't worry about it, the clips are cheap.

I'm just finising up my Saleen install. Did you end up getting the lowering mounts or just removing your liner?

I installed the prothane mounts and took 3/8" off of them and I still had to remove the Hood liner as the Saleen and Hoses rubbed it bad. I added a Steeda Carbon Fiber air inlet elbow and it still rubs bad. I place a Kelvar sleeve on top of the inlet so it cushions and doesn't rub the intake now.

Both. I had already installed lowering mounts in preparation for the blower install. It was after the install that I took the liner off. Decided to keep it off too.

Get that install done and on the road Man...You're going to love it!!!

Finished last night!!! Gotta wait until after work today to really play with it. I see what you mean about clearance, especially around the intake for me. Gonna pull the liner off this afternoon. I already installed the prothane motor mounts, so looks like I'll be hitting Tom281 up for some tips on shaving them down like he did.

Great to hear. I'm sure a machine shop can take care of those mounts for you without any problems.

The thing that sucks is you've got to pull the mounts to do it. I wish I'd had the forthought to plan ahead and either buy the J&M or take mine to a machine shop before install. I'm not looking forward to getting them out, leaving the car in the garage until I can get them machined.

Hey, now don't you go and start thinking ahead Gary, I have a hard enough time keeping up as it is!

I had the full length Prothanes on there first. Then when I decided to get the blower, I picked up the lowered ones, swapped them out and sold the others. Something to consider so you don't have any downtime.

I have to say, I really love this mod. Not only is it practical for those of us that want/need to remove the liner, but it's a great look!!! One question, how much paint did you end up using to get the 3 coats on? Oh, and did you have any alignment issues when you re-installed the hood?

No issues with aligning the hood since there really isn't any alignment options. As for how much paint. 2 cans of spray paint.
