Hitched?

Anyone here put a tow hitch on their ride? If so, what kind?

I'm actually only interested because I want to see about the possibility of putting one of those bike-carriers on so I can haul my bicycle around without cramming it in the trunk. Rather than putting some contraption on my trunk, I figured I'd look into a small bolt-on hitch.

Well, I still say dont, but even if you put one of the hitch carriers on, you may still have to tie it down on the car, not to sure what carrier you're talking about.

Yes I have fitted a "hidden hitch" receiver to my GT/CS and have just fitted one to a friends new GT conv. To fit it you need to remove both rear mufflers and then it is just 4 bolts to fit. On the electrics you must not wire directly to the rear lights but use a relay box so all the power for the trailer lights comes from the battery.

I've got the HiddenHitch installed on my GT. I haven't connected wiring yet. UK Pony, please tell me more about the relay box.

You can not add extra load to the cars wiring it will damage the SJB box in the car. You will need to fit a control box like this

Arrow,

I did just that...installed a hidden hitch, 1 1/4 inches, just like UK Pony's. Went to the same hitch place that I've used for years. This is the 4th car I've used my hitch mounted bike rack with. You take the drawbar that is in the second pic out, and the bike rack slides into its place. You'll love it! It's so much easier than trying to use the trunk-mounted bike racks. I knew I'd be using it for just the bike rack, and never for towing, so I didn't even have any wiring done, just had them install the hitch. It was just under $200, with install, if I recall correctly.
