Does anyone know where to get a good selection of high temp paints? I want to paint my valve covers but I want something more than just the simple normal selection of blue, red, black, ect. I am actually really looking for a dark charcoal color and hopefully even one with a pearl if possible.

Another question for those in the know....would it be safe to do it with a high temp primer, then a normal body paint and coated with a high temp clear coat, or will that still eventually crack?

Thank you in advance.

All coats have to be high temp. What about powder coating ? It's high temp as its baked on and nearly bullet-proof.

I thought about that but I was going to do it myself if possible and I dot have the stuff to powder coat so I would have to go somewhere to do it, but I was thinking about buying powder coating equipment....anyone know the difficulty level of powder coating, more, less or about the same as painting?

I truely think you could side with primer and clear being High Temps. I only use regular primer at times and find no problems.

Clear will crack/craze at normal underhood temps. It would only look good for a short while.

I have no problems with High Temp Clear! No cracks in my Cobra three years. The Ceramic in the paint is rated for 500 degrees and most likely good for a bit more. The Engine Bay only goes to 185 degrees in a few select areas and averages around 150 within just 2 or 3 inches of the engine. This is on an average 72 degree day. You still have plenty of room for the 100 plus desert sun.

Once you do Ceramic Coating, the color cannot be changed. So be very sure you like your color choice

just goto autozone and buy the VHT 1200 degree stuff. I've painted who engines with this stuff over the years and never ever had an issue.

color choices stink at the local shops, been to Pepboys, AutoZone, Kragen, NAPA, and HomeDepot, nothing but maybe 5 choices in High Temp Paints

Badsnke...where did you get your paint, that loooks awesome, is it the mystichrome paint that is a three step spray can process? If so how did you keep it from cracking, isnt it just normal body paint?

Thanks

Dupli-Color paints, Grey Filler Primmer, High Performance Wheel Coating (Highly reflective metallic) for the base. Then useing a light wind blown splattering of (from your local hobby store) Colors by BOYD, I used Kandy Purple Pearl and True Blue Pearl. Follow with 3 coats of Dupli-Color High Temp Engine Clear.

If you get to heavy with your colors in some areas, which will happen, just use a light spray of the wheel coating base to blend things together. All three colors will highlight depending on suns angle. Try smaller parts first to get the feel of it.

It's not going to crack. Just do not let any wiring harness vibrate on it.
