I Busted my butt my entire life(granted i am only 23) and my parents were always well off but they made a point to not spoil us (my brother and I) we both work very hard. I worked full time in a Ruby Tuesdays as a grill cook while taking extra credits to graduate early from college. And I got a good job and now finally 2 years after graduating and starting my job I purchased this beauty and I take soooo much crap, in the week that I have had the car, from people snickering that daddy must love me and other such things. Its really frustrating to hear things like that.

Wow, I am very impressed! There has been zero bashing of the High Schoolers with 05s in here!

Regardless of who bought the car, congrats. My parents bought my first mustang 00 v6 and I have no shame. If parents have the means to purchase their kid a car then why not, and just because my parents bought a car for me doesn't mean that I can't manage money. In fact, I manage my money very well.... look at my mods

Dang....I had a Dodge Dart w/ push button three speed for my high school car. I lived during the true muscle car era and my mouth watered ever day when the Super Bees and 68 and 69 Mustangs drove by....Congrats to all you high schoolers who get to drive an 05'....I'm 42 and jealous of all of you....
I can't imagine what it would be like to have this car during my high school years.....I would of never went to class...lol

Yeah, I can't really bash... the summer before my Junior year in college my parents bought my brother and me a '90 5.0 LX 5-speed. They thought we would be drafted for Gulf War I and wanted us to enjoy life before being KIA'd

When people would yell "Is that your Mom's car?" I would yell back "If it was mine, do you think I would do this?" and then smoke the poo out of the tires.

What does insurance cost on an '05 GT for a 17 year old by the way?

I don;t remember the exact quote we got, but i remember it not being ridiculous, i think like $1200 which is the same as some people on this site are paying, and they are quite a bit older

and the first day i got to drive my '73 i skipped school and burnt through a tank of gas

errr.....yikes....
What..?

I dont want people thinking that im spoiled. If you saw the grades i was pulling off before i heard about this deal, you would see why my parents would do something like this. Im not rich at all, i have 6 members in my family includeing me in a 3 bedroom townhouse. My parents just like motivateing me now until i get older and realize whats important.

And i dont know how much insurance would cost for a high school kid, but i remember my sister got her 4 cylinder car for 600/6 months, my other sister got her 6 cylinder car for 800/6 months, so im guessing a 8 cylinder would be 1,000/6 months? the difference is is that their cars were chevy's. But i think the insurance company has a plan where if u get good grades the price goes down

Congrats to all of you who are getting great cars that early in your life! You're going to be spoiler from now on.

When my brother (2 years older than me) turned 16, my parents bought him a brand new car, however about 6 months before I turned 16 my brother totaled the car, my parents divorced and split the insurance money while buying me a 10 year old clunker that left me stranded in the middle of the desert 6 times in the 3 years I had it while driving between cities.

Not exactly in high school but I'm only 20 in college so I could fit in this category. Worked my butt off since I was 13 doing cash jobs for family members and their friends. Got a real job Senior year in HS and have been working there ever since. Saving all my paychecks, birthday money, christmas money = nice car. I was saving up money for a car but I had no clue what i wanted. This summer my '89 F-150 with 220k miles wasn't feeling its best so I thought it was time to get a new car. Looked at few imports but mostly domestics and finally checked out the Mustang. Ordered one right after I test drove it. And the rest is history.

Parents were generous enough to give me 1k to add to my 10k I already had saved. Financing wasn't a problem either, I have had credit cards since high school and payed off the balance in full every month and on time. Didn't need a cosigner on my loan (parents were happy) and I will start paying it off next month. All mods, gas, insurance etc... will come out of my pocket.

I couldn't have done this without my parents though. They pressured me to do well in high school and now in college. They were always on me, they provided the essentials but everything else was out of my pocket. I am actually glad for that because I value money more IMO. Friends got BMW's and Lexus' in high school but now drive corolla's because they wrapped the nice ones around telephone poles. They didn't appreciate it like the kids on these forums do. Props to you guys in high school for having responsibility and good TASTE.

If I ever wrapped my car around a telephone pole I would make sure I went down with it.

Another thing:

My parents made me start out with a 86 bmw m635csi. Still a nice, fast car but it wasn't a brand new 25k v8 sports car. I proved I could handle myself (no tickets, no accidents) and they let me get a mustang. I can't stand kids who get powerful cars sitting in their driveway for their 16th birthday. That's just insane.

i didnt even have a permit when i got mine lol i was like 15 and a quarter
I'm 35 now, but in highschool at the ripe young age of 15 1/2, I got a 1984 GT350 , white with the maroonish GT350 stripe at the bottom... I was hated and admired... Then when I graduated, I got a brand new 1988 Saleen Mustang, right after the ceremony.. LOL!! Mom's took me down to the Ford dealership, and took me to the showroom floor.. A salesman walked up to me and said congratulations son.. Handed me the keys to a Black Saleen on the showroom floor..

When I went to college the next term, all my buddies couldnt believe it! LOL!! I love my momma!!

I say that to say this.. There have been those before you who have gone through what you are going through.. You'll get through it, cause they'll get over it!

I had to drive a 2000 Grand Prix SE with the 3.1 with a spotless record before it was even considered. When the 05's came out I said I really liked them and my Dad told me to keep dreaming. I really was expecting to get a V6. I think 16-17 should take a test before they're allowed a performance car, including driving skill and knowledge of the car overall. lol
