I have had nothing but compliments on the GT from everyone who sees it. I can relate, however, to the stories of other "05 owners being hineyheads. I've waved to others with no acknowledgement, but I think many of these owners have purchased the car because it represents some sort of status symbol at the moment. It is the "latest greatest" look. This fad will fade. This is my 8th mustang, so I'm probably a different kind of buyer than a hineyhead who won't wave back.

The difference of opinions lie with the mine is better than yours syndrome which a lot '05 owners have, which is not far from the truth but it still comes out as being snobbish. Expecting people to kneel and vow as if the '05 is the golden crown of the Prince of Wales is a bit unrealistic.

???...Oh...sorry...I wasn't wearing my crown...THAT must have been the problem.

That's it...I got to put my .02 in....

What are talking about 05 owners being snobs? I have seen this brought up by defensive Cobra and Mach 1 owners everytime this subject is discussed. They always say the "05 owners expect us to bow down" or the "05 owners ain't jack and I wish they would go away". I didn't say I was upset because they didn't drop to their knee's and bow....I SAID they won't even acknowledge a friendly wave...WHO is being snobbish? Did you read what I had written or immediately get on your Cobra/Mach 1 defensive soapbox? If you want to get right down to it...(even tho until now I have downplayed it to keep the peace)...I think the shoe is on the other foot...maybe the Mach 1's and Cobra owners have 05 envy, did that ever come to mind?

BTW....Had a guy in NICE 69' Z28 (fully restored...mega bucks) stop me and talk....even tho he bleeds chevy he LOVES the new mustang and wished GM would do something with a retro-camaro.

Ok my turn. Driving through town and there a spot where the younger locals with their skateboards hang out. Wife & I pull up to the light and one kids yells "Light Em Up". I looked out my window and laughed at them. Next time they do that, I'm going to ask for $20 first and see what they say/do...

As far as other owners acknowledgment goes, everyone is different. I never think there is a us vs. them especially when it comes to the same car. I've seen it motorcycle clubs as well. It's just life. If waving or nodding a fellow Mustang owner is what you do - then do it proudly regardless if the wave back or not. Just my opinions folks...

In my encounters I have offered nothing but compliments which is rightfully deserved. In return a couple have degraded my car which I am indifferent to since it is my taste I satisfy not others.

You guys with the hangup should for once spit it out and admit you are seeking attention and adulation. It is that simple. Otherwise, how come you are all the sudden aware of all the attention, what others are driving, whether or not you have been noticed and acknowledged?

You can say it out loud Jay, you are among friends.

I finally had two positive experiences.

First one I was getting lunch at drive thru, with some 90's Firebird/Trans Am in front of me. He saw me come in behind him, and then rev'd his engine. So I rev'd back. We continued to trade revs until he got his order and waved good-bye.

Second one, I was at a light with a 96-98 Mustang GT. I looked at him and waved, giving him thumbs up like "nice car." He smiled and did the same. Light turns green and next thing I know his tires bark and he's off! Caught off guard, I bogged on 1st gear, slow start, and then take off. Gaining on him, we were approaching a curve where I know cops like to hide, so I slid in behind him and flashed my lights. We got around the curve (no cops) and I catch up, we trade a thumbs up, smile and a good natured laugh.

No rice exchanges though, thankfully. I don't need crass comments.

You're right...I guess i'll have to admit I don't like people who don't reciprocate a smile....course' that may have been due to my first wife

Seriously...I have owned other mustangs. I never failed to check out and smile at another nice mustang. I don't think my 05' is the be all end all....or do I think Cobra's and Mach 1's are steaming piles of fecal matter. (I reserve that for cars with the initials GTO).

I compare it to motorcycles. I had a Yamaha YZF (Japanese crotch rocket)...no matter what kind of motorcycle I waved at I always got a nod or a wave (and I did the same when they initiated a greeting). No matter if it was a Harley or another Japanese bike everyone had a "welcome all" attitude....I guess it was a "us vs them" with "them" being non-bike owners. Now, when the beers flowed and we were expressing our opinions there were always Harley owners who HATED Japanese bikes (and vice-versa) but these same people would always have a wave ready. They might not like your ride but they respected the fraternity of riders.

In closing, the statement I made still stands. It may not be true all the time or anywhere but here....but it's the truth. I didn't make it in a snobish way or to the glorification of the 05...just my day to day observation.

There...I was completly open and honest...and it didn't cost me $150 for a therapist vist either!

I finally got my first thumbs up from another mustang owner this mornign comming home from an interview. It was a 05 red GT with a Roush body kit and black stripes. We both looke dover at the same time, he gave me a thumbs up so i returned it. He was in the right lane doing way under the speed limit though, so I couldn't really ride next to him too long.

I've noticed that the S197's don't hate as much as the body style in between. They usually wave or rev it up. 99-04's try as hard as they can to look the other way most of the time. I have a friend that has a 95 GT and a 04 Mach1.. but he loves the new ones and I know a girl that has a 97 v6 (5-speed ) and she loves it too.

Getting gas usually takes twice as long because everyone wants to come look at it and talk about it.

All little kids love it... "nice car man!" I even heard a girl that looked to be about 6 say "that car is cool!" when I was driving by.

Then there are the hillbillies that want you to "light it up".

And my favorite is driving by the parking lot where all the "wannbe gangstas" park their cars and hang out. Broken necks...

I'm hoping it wears off soon... I don't like being stared at everywhere I drive. <_<

Great timing on this thread......I went to the store a couple hours ago and saw a 1970 Mustang parked way out in the lot, so I parked a couple spaces away from it. When I came out of the store, the owner was walking all around my car checking it out. Before I reached my car, a woman in a 2003 drove up checking it out. She said she's trying to talk to her husband into getting an '05. The guy in the '70 was very cool. We ended up both opening our hoods, starting our engines, and thoroughly checked each others car out. I'm constantly getting waves from people....even a guy cruising in a T-Bird waved at me yesterday.

I've been driving my 05 (Windveil Blue 'Vert) since June 1st, new, old and classic owners always give the "wave" or "thumbs-up". Younger kids want me to "light'em up", older kids want to know much it costs. The car speaks for itself. If it runs on rice, just can't be nice! :nono:

Noticing the attention - It wears off after a few months.. But I still give a good natured wave to anyone who waves first.

Last time I came out to my car while at the mini mart an older guy who used to work for Carol Shelby in the 1960s was checking out my car - we talked for about 45 min.. let him take close look at the car.. very interesting conversation.
