Is anyone thinking of taking the lens covers off the headlights of their 05? I think it would look more retro or classic and better without the lens covers.....also will it be relatively easy to remove them?

Sorry but you can NOT take the lenses off in real life because they are in fact apart of the front facia. Sorry, but alot of us wanted to take the covers off too. I know because I was one.

Yah I'm sure, but yes you could install aftermarket headlights. Sept what you would have to do if probably take them out of through the engine bay and do the swap that way or just take off the front facia and work on them that way. I know that really bums a person out, but thats what the people who have already seen the production cars in person have said it looks like. So I'm just going by word of mouth.

I for one would love to remove the lense cover because I like it a heck of alot better without the covers on (we did a bunch of photochops that had the covers removed; and they all looked so clean, as in sleak).

The headlights are not part of the fascia... the headlight and cover are a sealed assembly.

You could try and take the lens cover off, but a few things would happen:
1. There would be an ugly edge where the lens was mounted to the housing.
2. The headlight would not be properly protected from the elements.

I will bet that the aftermarket will have some kind of drop-in replacement for the factory headlights which will mimic either the 64-66 design or the 67-68 style. This will look much better and compliment the lines better than trying to get away with hacking up the factory ones. Just my opinion

You guys know how when you open a package for a halogen headlamp replacement, the package says do not touch the glass, right. Oil, grease, etc can (and most likely will) cause the bulb to fail, explode, etc. Under the lens of the 05 there is nothing but an exposed halogen bulb with no cover at all. The chrome piece is nothing more then a reflective backing, not a complete housing. So If you remove the lens, I will bet you your halogen bulb will be finished after the first day, and you will be drive home in the dark. The bulbs are filled with halogen gas, and thus pressurized, so if something hits them, especially when hot they will explode. I think too many people out there think there is a 64-68 style lamp under the 05 lens, well there isn't. Removing the lens would be a bad idea. I do sympathize with you, because I like the retro look also. Lets pray to the car gods that an aftermarket supplier gives us a replacement housing, there is just no way to modify the factory one to work lensless. :notnice:

Well, the thing to do is not just do away with the front cover, but to replace it nearer to the reflective housing. If not make it part of that reflector.

This can be done. It's just who's gonna try. I may be game. Dunno yet. I sure would like those black bezels painted to match the outside instead...

There was this drawing done a while back by KingLurker, modded by tampabear67. I will get the lense cover similar to the fogs, but 1st I'll patiantly wait till someone does it to theirs 1st and looks good, and a nice clean kit comes out.

I'm not sure, but it could be that the housing has a socket at the rear for a replaceable halogen bulb. If so the headlight bulbs could be swapped for 55/100 Watt upgrades and the foglight bulbs swapped for 100 Watt bulbs. Somthing like Sylvania SilverStar bulbs would be an awsome and inexpensive upgrade. B)
