Happy ending after all!
Last weekend I posted about my decision to "throw in the towel" and cancel my order after waiting almost four months. By the middle of last week my frustration had subsided enough to try a new tactic. While checking out Autotrader.com, I thought I would e-mail dealers within 200 miles, hoping to snag a dealer stock Screaming Yellow GT that was not yet accounted for.
I received many responses but none were very encouraging. A couple of them mentioned that a check of the entire Atlanta region yielded nothing fitting my request. I figured "what the heck", maybe I'll have some luck with some of the dealers from my home state (we moved to NC from New Jersey about 15 years ago).
The first one I looked at was a rather large dealership. No luck...not even a GT in stock. I then typed in my home town dealer, Lilliston Ford in Vineland, NJ. Unbelievable!!! There it was! Yellow GT premium coupe, manual trans, IUP, optional wheels, shaker 1000, and side airbags! It was actually more than my previous order but close enough at this point.
My wife called me at work the next morning (Thursday). While they didn't yet have the car, it was in route and was ours if we wanted it (for MSRP, BTW). Turns out their internet person had just listed it moments before I checked the website!
Our salesman, Nelson Flores, called that evening to let us know the car had been delivered. By Friday afternoon we had arranged the financing, packed a few things, and were on our little 500 mile adventure.
We arrived at the dealer on Saturday morning and there was already a crowd around the GT (they later told us they could have sold the car four or five times on Friday night!). The deal went without a hitch and we spent the day visiting with friends and family (and giving rides
). Drove home Sunday and have been smiling ever since.
I hope this will encourage some of you that have been waiting for so long. The internet is a wonderful tool. You never know when you might get lucky!

That is great news. Congrats, it sad though that you had to leave NC in order to find someone to help you out. I'm really glad you got your car. I'll be looking for you on my way to and from work. I drive through Concord on Interstate 85 going to Charlotte and back to High Point.
Story sounds reaaaaaaaaaaally familiar, just there was more distance. I love it when people manage to find their car on the lot. I mean at this point in '05, lets face it, ordering a GT now is a total crap shoot. You guys definitely used your heads and made it work.
Now go out and DRIVE!!!
NANNNNNNERS!
