This "commodity hold" effects all GT orders or just ones that have not been scheduled? My understanding is that a under commodity hold vehicles won't be scheduled for production until Ford fixes the supply problem.
So if a vehicle is scheduled does that mean the hold doesn't apply to that vehicle?

It is appears that many of you do not understang how manufacturing works. You can't just magically build cars. You have to have ALL the parts in the pipeline in quantities that match sales.
I'll try to explain what is happening.
Historically Mustang sales have been 70% V6, 30% V8.
If you look at the dealer order guide, you can see the initial build plan was for 68% of '05s to be V6 and 32% V8.
What has happened is that orders for V8 '05 Stangs are MUCH higher than Ford predicted.
Ford CANNOT magically make more V8s overnight, they have to order more V8 parts and get them to AAI. This takes time. It is NOT just the 4.6L V8 it is also the T3650 trannie, the V8 springs, the V8 shocks, the V8 sway bars, the 8.8" V8 Traction-Lock rear end, the V8 dual exhaust, the V8 front facia and grille, the V8 wheels, the V8 brakes, etc., etc., etc.
Have any of you ever manufactured anything? One missing part means you can't build and sell a complete product. Now imagine trying to manage the production of 850 cars per day, 200,000 per year!
Ford apparantly left some fudge room, as from what BEK said, they are going to raise V8 production from 38% to 50%.
The same deal on the IUP. Look again at the dealer order sheet. Ford estimated that 40% of sales would have the IUP. But just like the V8, it appears that a greater # of customers want the IUP, causing a shortage of parts.
I'm sure that Ford wants to sell more GTs and more IUPs as they add profit $$ to the Mustang sales. Ford simply under estimated how many V8 & IUP sales they would get. Ford will be able to increse production of both of these, but it could take 3 - 4 months to get the parts in the pipeline.
In the mean time the dealers are going to have to make do with what Ford builds. It sounds like for every GT a dealer orders, they are going to have to take 1 or more V6s whether they want the V6s or not.

Thank you os121 for your help and faith.
heck it's the internet. it's good to be a little skeptical. We did receive an update today changing the IUP to 35% in case you were wondering about the discrepancy.

V10,
Very well said. I believe your statement accurately describes the situation. I think Ford is overwhelmed with GT orders because there is such a positive response from Mustang enthusiasts for this new car, and of course we want V8 power. I think they should have thought of this, but as you said it is hard to plan for everything.

Bruce is definately the go-to guy here for ordering information. Managers deal with ordering, not salespeople. Heck I ask him questions all the time. :worship:

This could be good. Weed out the people who really don't love the Mustang and jump ship. Help those who are dedicated and loyal to get theirs quicker.
Let's not take it to far with rumors of the plant blowing up or anything. Not that you guys would do that to get your car quicker.

it's all about money....
ford could care less who gets what as long as they make as much money the first year as they can.
if this is true, they did not prepare.... that's sad for people like me who can buy the car (a GT) but have to wait untill they hit the showroom floor....
my car has 162,000 miles, and is falling apart quick...
my concern is not to bash ford for this, but to voice my concern that I don't know if I will make it another 2-months...! To buy the car of my dreams.

I really don't mean to offend anybody, but why take the attitude of, "great ford, now I can go and get X,Y, Z car" as BEK355 mentioned, maybe this is a good thing, those of us that are true fans will be patient and wait and those that are casual can just jump ship and not look back. Why take that attitude? like Ford messed something up, obviously we all know that the majority of sales for the stang have always been V6 and it seems that according to the numbers that is what Ford planned for, but now with the chevy people that have jumped to Ford and the other stragglers looking for an affordable performance car it seems like they will have to increase the GT numbers being built. Oh well
I for one will stick around and wait if I have to for my GT

The orignal post un-necessarly alarmed many people including myself. BEK now says that typical this kind of delay will not effect cars that have already been scheduled.

Again, don't post anything citing delays, plant explosions, Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse without some source to your story.
