GT Engine/Acceleration Sounds

I'm very new to V8's so maybe this is kind of a dumb question, but when I really step on the gas I get a kind of whirring, sucking in air, type sound (along with the beautiful roar of the engine). If I didn't know any better I could swear it sounded like a supercharger, but that's obviously not possible.

Is this just a normal sound the the engine makes (if so what causes it?)? I thought maybe it was a result of the location of the intake (I believe it sucks in air from around the front drivers side wheel well-ish area?) but I just cant get over how much it sounds like a supercharger. Not to say that I'm familiar with supercharged engines, I'm just going by what I've heard in youtube videos and how the 03 Cobra that lives in my apartment complex sounds when it takes off.

I'm somewhat familiar with Turbo cars (one friend has a Solstice GXP and another has a Neon SRT-4) and it doesn't sound like anything I would associate with them, but another friend has a ZR51 C6 and I dont remember hearing anything like this from his V8. I guess that could be a difference in push-rod vs SOHC, but still I figured they cant be too far off in terms of general operation sound.

Any insight into this would be awesome, the one friend I have at work that has another GT has been out all week on vacation and this has been driving me crazy. I tried looking around on the internet for some answers but you cant exactly google "what is that sound my engine is making" very effectively, ha ha.

I'd have to hear to be sure, but it doesnt sound too unusual. The intake does bring in more air when under heavy acceleration, in fact the 2010 intakes have a valve or something to increase this sound to the driver, and the engine noise

That is normal. Now, install a CAI and you will hear it even more.

God I love that sound, get a CAI and it will really scream "feed me"!

I need to go drive my car now.

I haven't even began modding mine yet and I still can't get over the hum of rolling through the gears at low rpms around town and nailing it when merging onto the freeway, its just amazing. I have co-workers telling me that I should have bought a 350z and I just grin and respond, "they sound nice, but they don't sound like a V8 that's wide open"

thanks guys, that's good to know. Now I just need to record some decent audio of the car before I head home for Christmas so I can show my friends back home!

This is kinda geekish , but I just remembered that before the 2005 came out, the official mustang site had this section where you could click on a few buttons and it would play a different 2005 mustang sound. So, at the time, I downloaded them all and strung them together in a single mp3. Perhaps this will put your worries at ease.
