Can the pony emblem engine cover retrofit on GTs that did not come with the appearance package?

How many bolts/nuts are used to hold down the cover?
Will it clear the non-GT appearance package hood liners?
Will the pony/cover wear out or fade over time due to engine heat?

So on a 2007, only 1 stud and nut is required to hold down the cover? I'll have to look more closely at my intake manifold to see where it could bolt down.

What material is used on for the cover and pony emblem? Is it painted or dyed/molded? I'm guessing the pony and "Powered by Ford" is typical chrome plated plastic?

 

Does anyone have pics of the appearance cover and which studs it attaches to?

Do a search for engine cover and you will see lots of threads and pics on the subject. It is a very easy mod, and for the 07's all you need are two nuts to make it work as the 07's already have the studs in place on the top front of the TB, and the back of the cover goes down over two studs holding the fuel rails. I did it, because I didn't want the fake hood scoop on the GT Appearance Package, but wanted the engine cover and exhaust tips, which were also an easy retrofit. Good luck

 

I saw that thread and it looked like most of the people were trying to retrofit them on 05-06 GTs.

So I only need two of the nuts for the 07 GT? What about the TB studs? Don't I need nuts for those studs as well?

Have any 07 GT owners reported the covers rubbing against the hood pads like the 05-06 GT owners?

 

If you read the thread you will see that KC has even posted the part numbers that you will need for the nuts for the 07's. Again, the studs are already on the 07's, so you don't need them, just the nuts. There are photos of each on the thread. Yes, some folks with the 07's have reported rubbing, mainly because the hoodliner sags. You can either use double sided tape behind the hoodliner to prevent the sagging, or you can install a strut tower brace to prevent the hoodliner from sagging which is what I did on my 07. I did not have any sagging before I installed it however, I just wanted a STB. See the photos below with the STB and Engine Cover installed on an 07 GT.

 

I didn't bother reading through all 30 pages, but the hood rubbing is a big turn off. Thanks for the heads up.

 

Had mine on for about 2 months and no rubbing so far. It was easy to install.

 

I've had mine on my '05 for a few months now. It fit on there with no problems. Hood rubbing hasn't been a problem for me But, mine rides under an STB, so the hood blanket is held above it. The cover is very well made. I don't expect that heat will damage it at all.

You might want to consider using a couple of chrome acorn nuts to cover the throttle body studs that hold the front part of the cover. They will look nicer.

I'll post a picture if I can figure out how to make my photo occupy a few less bits.

 

If I order W520411-S437, will I get only 1 hex nut or 4? I've had dealers tear open the bag of multiple hex nuts and sell only one. Based on the price ($1), it sounds like if you want 4, you have to order 4x W520411-S437.

Is it stainless steel? Or will it rust over time?

It looks like the hood is even pre-marked for the GT appearance hood scoop.

 

Update:
I installed the Pony Emblem engine cover on the GT. Only TWO of the nuts are required, as the rear fuel rail studs are not the same thread pitch/size as the nuts. Just use the 2 nuts on the throttle body studs, and use the harness/tube clips to hold down the rear of the cover.

 

Which is what I said back up in post #5, and it is also covered in great detail on the 30-plus page thread that I linked...

Since the nuts were only $0.84 each, it wasn't too big of a deal. I guess since I didn't see or missed a response saying NOT to use the nuts for the fuel rail studs, I went ahead and bought two extra nuts anyway. FWIW, I bought the cover for $44 along with the rear molded splash guards for $33. Most places were charging $60 for the cover and $45-$50 for the guards.

I've got an '06 & have the same liner as you, I've marked where the liner rubs on the intake cover. I haven't done the carpet tape yet, as I'm installing a Shaker scoop soon,I just keep a old washcloth on the intake cover where it contacts the liner. It will rub the paint off the fins on your cover if you don't address it.
