I don't blame the cops. They were doing the right thing. However, I would maybe talk to a lawyer and see if there is anything you can do about the DMV mistake. That's one heck of a mistake for them to make. Got to love our bureaucratic system we have.

By the way, now I'm gonna make sure I have an extra pair of jeans and unnda pants in my car just in case.

Not flaming you here....just curious. See a lawyer about what? A lawsuit? I'm sure it was an honest mistake, hardly deserves suing someone over.

Great story, you'll be able to share it with your grandkids someday.

I went to the DMV today (actually the tax assessor collector). They were quite suprised to hear what I told them happened to me. In fact they didn't even believe me. Once I convinced them, they said there was nothing wrong in their system with my plates and the cops made a mistake. I told them just give me new plates and they said it will cost me $7. Couldn't get the plates though because they wanted the registration sticker back along with the plates I brought. I had left the car at home in fear of getting sodomized by some cops again. I was pissed off so I left for home to have some fun putting my new Alpine speakers in.

The police were just doing their job but it doesn't suprise me that nobody at DMV wants to take the blame for it. My dealer is being cool about it and may be able to resolve it for me.

So all this crap I had to deal with the cops, then again more crap today dealing with motor vehicles, and on top of that I may have to pay $7 for new plates. I think in the future any new car I will run the plates by the police prior to using them. B)

The Toledo, OH cops are to lazy to do much of anything. Stollen cars are found after they have been sitting somepalce for days. I've never been pulled over in 9 years of driving. Even in the burbs they pay no attention to me. I think it is because I have no tint, and they can see who is driving. :hint, hint:

the way I see it, if a theif was in my car, I would want the cops to do exactly what they did!!
after things cooled down I would tell them thanx...good job, if you see someone other than me driving the car, do the same thing!

I agree in that it sounds like they were just doing their job. The DMV doesnt enter a car in as stolen....Law Enforcement does. The Police should be able to give you a case number assigned to the stolen hit in the computer and you can go get a copy of the report and see exactly who reported it as stolen. I would then go from there and discuss it with them. Good luck.

Great story! Glad it turned out alright and you cooperated even though you knew something wasn't right. Just like darth-bob says, you need to check with the Police to see why your plates are showing stolen in the system. Good luck getting it straightened out.
FYI for those that don't know. Running license plates is standard procedure to locate stolen cars as well as wanted people. I can't remember who asked about the officer passing the car and then slowing down to allow him to get in behind the car but, that happens when you run the plate as you're passing a car and you don't get the stolen car screen until you've already passed. Sometimes the system can get backlogged and take longer than it should. I've had more than I can count not show up stolen until the car is out of sight. Then you get to try and hunt it down the rest of the shift.
