Bullit, he got taken, he ordered a car with an interior that doesnt exist, with a package that hasnt been determined, and put too much down to order a car that technically doesnt exist yet, and the dealer cant quote him a price, since the car doesnt exist in the dealer yet

and im a little surprised kevinb didnt remark on the dealer or the situation, disappointed actually, lol
How do you know he got taken? IT doesn't hurt to put too much down as long as it is refundable. He may have a set deal, if not, he can walk away if he isn't happy with it. If he is happy with it, he gets his car before we do. Doesn't sound taken to me.

If i were to walk into a dealer right now and order a Ford 500 (for arguments sake, another car that technically doesnt exist to dealers yet, whether it does or doesnt, im not sure), and tell the dealer imaginary options that i wanted to have (an interior color that doesnt exist, a package that has zero options and might night exist), and mentioned that i had a 1000 dollars in hand i was ready to put down, i guarantee you that one he would accept the money, and two he would tell me anything i wanted to hear in order to get the money, including, oh i promise you'll get one of the first ones off the truck.

if Job1 is in the middle of september, the chances of this bein true are slim to none, and Ford has said that production won't really be getting to the dealers until the middle of October, when they start advertising. For a dealer to be able to pat a unsuspecting person on the head and assure them that they'll have one of the first cars off the truck, and then turn and laugh their tails off since they pocketed twice the amount of money they should have, or pocketed any money before the car exists in the eyes of the dealer, im sorry, imo, you got taken.

i could walk in right now to any dealer in my area with a 1000 dollars and whip out a handful of options i want, black interior with IUP and 18s, and spinners, with a shaker 1000 (examples of options available and possibly not available), and i promise you that they'd tell me sure, no problem, all set, thanks for your business (and your overpayment) and you'll have the first one we get. and come may 17th, when they get the order guides in, i get a phone call telling me the choices i want arent available, i need to change option a, b, and c to etc, and then im gettin my car sometime in october. for the most part (some exceptions) dealers will say virtually anythin you wanna hear to get your money, just my experience, especially with the 2005 Mustang. yes, he got taken, he ordered a car with options that dont exist, and put an extra 500 down on top of it, for nothing more to be called around May 17th and told he needs to fill out a order guide with the true available options for what he'd like

and note we havent heard from this kid since, he's either realized it, or it might be a load of mularkey

Wow, everybody has advice for this guy, eh? And most of you are just repeating the "good advice" that you've heard others say about pre-ordering a car.

But you don't know this guy's situation. $1000 down will indeed make the salesman happy. And a happy salesman will more likely be willing to help this guy get the car he wants, as soon as he wants it. If having one of the first '05's to hit the streets is important to someone, and they can afford to make that happen, then that's their decision.

As far as the black interior goes - "dark charcoal" is practically dark enough to be considered black unless the sun is shining directly on it, and I bet a lot of "average customers" who don't know any better will call it that when they see it.

Aside of ignorance and idiocy prevailing in this topic, forums like this are meant to to assist members to get the best advice for their own good from those who have gone around a couple of times.

If the guy would have gotten a good deal, the info would be shared for the benefit of other members as to project that a good deal is workable.

The early '05s purchases are going to turn out to be dream deals for the dealers, no different than the early Bullitt or Mach 1 purchases. People got nailed left and right, and the sad thing about it is that they enjoyed it.

It just doesen't make sense to put down money this early. Happy salesman or not, I doubt I would pay an extra $500 just to make him happy, on the off chance that may help me down the road. I have to call Ehem :nono: on this one.

No, there's nothing wrong with your opinion. And I wasn't picking on your post specifically, so don't take it personally.

I was just trying to point out that from what the guy posted, there was no "deal" made, and no one can say he "got taken". He just put more money down than most people would have. That money will go towards purchasing the car, so there's practically no difference (unless you're investing in some nice stocks between now and this Fall).

Now, if his car rolls off the truck in October and he pays above MSRP for it, THEN everyone can say he got a bad deal. But he could also ask for his down payment back. Asking the salesman to give back $1000 will probably bring that price down in order to close the deal. Maybe not, but I would bet so.

Would I put a $1000 down right now? No. I'll probably wait until next spring, like a lot of other people here have said they would do. The only way I see myself getting one this fall is if they wind up with one on the lot exactly how I want it, AND there are decent incentives (low APR, whatever) like the rumours have said. But I definitely won't pre-order one.

A salesman cant get paid untill the car is delivered. If he has 500 or a grand to drop, whats the difference?. Technically you CAN reserve a car type, although I dont know if I would yet As for the 500, the order bank is open for them(and the order guide with all options is available). As long as you get a recipt for a REFUNDABLE deposit, you may as well have 1000 in your savings account or waiting for a car.

Well I wouldn't do it. I don't see the need, like has been said above a great many things are said to change in between now and then, and a salesman is likely to tell you anything to pocket your money, whatever pocket it winds up in. And yes I've been owned.
