Giving up..Stang to become a :"Beater"
Now... some of you are being too harsh. Sometimes people are just in situations where it's not feasible to do things they'd like to. I'd like to go to Hawaii again. I was lucky enough that I got to go 3 times. But now, with prices the way they are, and my job the way it is... I have to say I can't go. Does that make me less of a Hawaii aficionado? No. It says I'm being somewhat practical.
That being said, while it's a sad day for the ponycar... Sometimes it happens.
Also, that being said... I'd be looking in junkyards for the appropriate parts and learning how to fix it in my backyard... a fender here... a fascia there... a little primer and prepping in month 3... paint gun and paint in the 4th month.. Assembly in the fifth... As I built the Muskrat in my backyard with my dad, including all body work and paint, even on a driver, this is fixable.
If you're so inclined and have the time. At this time in my life, though, there's no way I could do it. Period.
/which is why I have full coverage at a reasonable deductable on The Awesome. Heck, I had it for HoopTBird, just in case... THAT was a beater.

That's a bit much. People scratch up their cars every day. I have done it, almost everyone I know has done it, it just happens. If someone wants to fix it, that is up to them. He has not given up, he just puts things into perspective and what works for him. I have put a lot of time and money into my car but I do not treat it the same way as when I first got it. I know if I was to damage it now, I wouldn't run out and fix it right away, not like I did in the past. After all, the mustang is just a car. (.....puts on his flame proof suit)

I have to agree with the majority sentiment here.
You scraped your fender and now you've decided your car is a "beater."
Dude... sell your car and buy a beater.
And for those defending this guy... he is the one who made the post. I assume he wanted everyone to write, "Oh gosh that's awful... well good luck" or something to that effect. But they did not because most here actually think of a Mustang as a heritage, a particular piece of history and not just "a car."
Yeah he bought it, but the way I see ownership of a car like a Mustang is you are the care taker until you decide to sell it or it is passed on to someone in your family. And if you're not a good care taker then give it to someone who will be.
I see older Mustangs that are ragged out every day. And every time without exception it makes me sad. I could care less about the owner who obviously could care less about me or more obviously his Mustang, but I do care about the car and what it symbolizes.
So yes... please sell it! And then buy a Honda or maybe a Toyota?

Personally, I couldn't live with that kind of damage to my car for very long. I have a couple of small dings right now that are driving me nuts. I wouldn't throw in the towel for $1400. BTW, what's your insurance deductible?
However, it's your car and your choice. My car is a form of expression for me, and I take a lot of pride in it. Yes, in the end I know it's "just a car", but I see it as a future family heirloom. My 5yo son (who loves Mustangs) will someday drive it with the same pride that I do.

Sorry but I think it is statements like this that make some people hate mustang owners. How does the way a person treats their mustang have anything to do with you? You care about your car and you take care of it, let others deal with their own vehicles the way they see fit.
Like another poster said, if you don't want to open yourself up to other peoples' opinions (including dissenting ones), then don't bring it up in the first place. These forums are for public discussion last I checked.
dude make your car your number 1 priority in life and spend as much as necessary to keep it in perfect condition, forsaking all others including your family...trust me it will work out in the end after all it is a MUSTANG!!!!

Doesn't have anything to do with me, but he posted on this forum and I responded. If someone "hates" me for it I would submit maybe they have their own issues.
Ask my opinion and I'll give it to you.
I think it's a shame to see a Mustang that has been neglected.
In other words I care about the car not the "owner."
Sure it's an American icon and heritage but still, it's just a car... They come and go just like life itself. Now would I like the next Mustang owner to take care of their car as well as I do mine? (because it makes me smile when I see one well kept) of course... but everybody ain't you.
I love this car as much as the next person but it's just a car that's meant to be driven. God forbid, if any you get into a bad crack up, I am not gonna be concerned about your American icon. It's that precious life; YOU! I'm concerned for... Need your a** to be here so we can talk some smack on this forum. And that goes for EVERYBODY!!

Own the car, don't let it own you. Once I figr'd that out, the cars became a lot more fun

Why does a daily driver and a beater have to be synonymous?
I've been enjoying mine every day since we bought it. - September 7, 2005.
I am sure it shows more wear and tear than the garage queens, and I don't want to cut them down in any way - I am the first to admire them at shows.
But down the road, they're all piles of rust. They don't matter.
I won't let mine go one day saying, "Man I wish I had enjoyed more fun with that car!"
It's waiting for me outside - right now. And we're going places today with the top down!
