Giving up..Stang to become a :"Beater"

Well, I have now scraped up my right fender and bumber on a brick column....stupid, but true. Was watching the left and screwed up on the right.....$1400.00 plus plus damage and here I'm complaining bout the hood scoop......(hasn't fit and was asking Ford to fix it...see post under Exterior Mods)

Soooo.......As I refuse to spend the bucks to replace an entire fender and paint the bumper, My Stang, (an'07) as beautiful as it was a week ago with its many mods, has been downgraded to a "beater". The good news is no longer do I need to anxt, hand wash it, or give a *h*t about what in reality is a daily driver....next time I will be smart, buy some SUV or 4 door Honda as a daily, albeit boring car, and have my "hobby" car as something truly collectible.

Bye bye Stang....at least as a car dear and near! A big lesson hear, loved this car, best of 25 plus cars I've owned, ( had about 5 collectors for a total of 30)) put a ton of money into mods, and this is the outcome......kinda puts life into perspective.
Spend money on a truly collectible car, not a current issue model!

I am glad I didn't react this way when hail did $7400 damage to my car a few months ago. I stood by and could do nothing as I watched my car get pounded with hail. I was just thankful no tornado touched down and killed us all.

I wish all I had to worry about was a fender and bumper which are both bolt on cosmetics. I have over a hundred spots of filler on my car but it got it fixed and looks as good as new.

All better now...

Sad to hear that, its hard to see that a 1400 scrape turns a 25,000 muscle car into a beater.

Hmmm, I'd just replace the front fascia and paint the bumper. Just doesn't make sence to me not to. Then again, I had my entire car repainted just after paying over 3k to install/paint a body kit.

+1 All the work into mods, etc for fun but then not fix collision damage? Sounds like an opportunity for a Saleen, etc bumper cover.

Interest approach to life...
It shows where you put you vs. where you put your car.
You screw up, you put the car down a notch or two.

Look at it as an op for some exterior mods. Get a new fascia (Saleen heritage ) or go with a take off (already painted for the same money as the Saleen). Pay to get the fender repainted or replaced. If the fender needs replaced see if a bone-yard has one your color http://car-part.com

Good luck.

I'd fix it even though it will cost a bit of money and move on. Everyone makes mistakes. A great car should not be demoted to a daily driver. After all the mustang did not make the driving error. If the mustang could talk what would it say........?

sounds like you don't deserve to have a nice car. Sell it to someone who knows how to drive and take up residence in a Honda civic.

This is why mine is a garage queen. This is the nicest car I've ever owned and I'm not rich so I'll have it many years and have it look good as new. i do drive it on weekends. It makes it exciting to drive every time I get in to it. Spend the $ to fix yours up and buy a beater for DD. JMO

Why does a daily driver and a beater have to be synonymous?

I've been enjoying mine every day since we bought it. - September 7, 2005.

I am sure it shows more wear and tear than the garage queens, and I don't want to cut them down in any way - I am the first to admire them at shows.

But down the road, they're all piles of rust. They don't matter.

I won't let mine go one day saying, "Man I wish I had enjoyed more fun with that car!"

It's waiting for me outside - right now. And we're going places today with the top down!

Ditto on Paris's comments with the addition that the damaged mustang should be repaired.

Cool

My son builds his own Mustang racers. So gang you can only guess my age! Have had many fun and wonderfully fast cars in my life. But have also really bonded with our great Calstang! Just really love driving and owning this Stang!! Every ride is truely a total rush! "You know of what I speak".

Moreover: When we were picking up our daughters Fusion from the custom auto repair shop after some nasty hail. Told the owner, "If Cal gets so much as a paint scrape on him". "I'll be on the cell phone with you, making my appointment first, even before the insurance call". Just Fix It Blitz!!

Believe me: When I say these great S197's are making a spot for themselfs in the future Great Fords History Books!! So if you are lucky enought to have a "GQ" or a "DD" S197, just enjoy every momemt. And realize your are blessed to be apart of the stories and the legends that will be told to our future generations of Ford lovers!!! You Lucky Dogs All!! CalStang

fix it bro...how can a $1400 repair right off all the money you have spent on mods and on the car itself. I understand you fell dejected becasue of what happens that is understandable, but think of it like this if you decided to do another $1400 mod you would go ahead and do it so why not just spend the money to fix and put tthe brakes on other spending
