Giving up..Stang to become a :"Beater"
Why does a daily driver and a beater have to be synonymous?
I've been enjoying mine every day since we bought it. - September 7, 2005.
I am sure it shows more wear and tear than the garage queens, and I don't want to cut them down in any way - I am the first to admire them at shows.
But down the road, they're all piles of rust. They don't matter.
I won't let mine go one day saying, "Man I wish I had enjoyed more fun with that car!"
It's waiting for me outside - right now. And we're going places today with the top down!

So, does this mean I should be ashamed that I drive my stang every day of the year. I hope not, its a 4 year old car and I still get compliments everyday. Its called taking pride in what you drive.
Hey everyone....I appreciate the candid responses...and Karmen and Oatz....I too be an old guy. I've owned over thirty cars starting with the muscles machines of the 60's to Bimmers and a 911 Porsche, and several collector cars as well. Other than the 911 and the collectors, The Stang has received more TLC, money dumped on it, and compliments than any other, and been the most reliable and close to my favorite. Great ideas re more mods, but that means more $'s. I was willing over the next few months to spend maybe $600.00 on a few more mods,(that won't be happening) and I'm almost due for the 30,000 mile service and the 6 month insurance is due. Add it all up and the timing of a $1400.00 unexpected and "unnecessary" (vs. service or tires) expense coupled with very unprdictable income flow ( self employed) makes for a crappy attitude...it just ain't in the budget. Sooo, the fun of it all (The Stang has been a combo daily driver/hobby car-the collectors are gone with one "someday I'll resore it 356 Porsche")is sort of, well, gone. So, for now I'll drive it as it is, stop all the TLC treating it like the GC it isn't (thus my daily driver comment) and get on with life. At some pont I'm sure I'll get it fixed.
Seriously thanks again for all the responses....most made sense (except whoever the h*ll said I didn't deserve a nice car and the one about not being able to drive or words to that effect)and the support is appreciated.

Hey Blitz, I'm in a similar situation. Sorry to hear you're in it too. I have about $1000 in damages on my car (and that's including a serious discount by a friend that does paint), and money is also tight. The damages were a direct result of me, from when I went drifting.
I was really torn about the car being imperfect for about a month, but then decided that my first priority should really be to fix it back up 100%. Reasoning:
1) If I sell this car, it's going to have to be fixed anyway. If I don't sell it, I might as well fix it because I'll be driving it for decades.
2) If I fix it NOW versus a year from now, I will gain one entire year of happiness from driving a great looking car.
This was in May and I still haven't gotten it fixed due to a few back-to-back unexpected "bills," but the moment I scrounge up the money, it will be going to making my stang new again.
Unless you plan on getting alot more at-fault dents in it, I think you should just fix it up ASAP to maximize the number of happy years with a like-new car.
But yeah.. I'm only 25, what do I know. :P

I had front and rear facia's repainted because they had stone chips. All told about $850.00. Maintenance is part of ownership, no matter what kind of car it is.
My car got keyed while I was at the movies a couple of weeks ago. It was keyed down the entire passenger side and hood. It seems like the more you care about a car, the more damage will happen to it. If I drove a beater, it would never get damaged. A $500 deductible later and my car is back to normal. It like those @#@$ that keyed my car mugged me and took $500 out of my wallet...
But I'm not going to let those jealous #$#%@s win. I'm going to drive my car every day just like I have since I first bought and enjoy it. I've earned it. Don't get discouraged.

ok.. whats a GQ or a DD ???
I believe what you say 100%. These S197's will def go down in Ford performance history..
I am old enough to hear the exact same thing said for 60's musclecars and they were wrong. Its good that some people don't believe it cause that will make us who DO take care of our S197's happier when our cars will bring nice $$ in the future

Do your thing man. It's your car. Some people sweat their Mustangs other don't. Apparently you don't and there ain't a thing wrong with that, if that's what you want to do. Guarantee you are not the only one and I witnessed by a lady who owned a GT 500! And the front rims were blacker(with brake dust) than the car!
I'm trying to work on a nice beater for those bad snow days but my ride IS a daily driver, I keep her looking good but I don't sweat it. All I do is wash it weekly, and wax and vacuum monthly, stay up on the maintenance and lightly mod it.. That's it!
But regulate it to beater status because of a mishap; Not happening. Gotta go out on dates with that pretty car. Like I said, some people sweat em and some don't. And be it a garage queen, summer only, weekend warrior, or daily... Its' just a car... And that's the low end theory.

Yup, my front fascia is due for a repaint. I can't believe how many stone chips I get just from driving it to work. Darn highway driving.
if you think that little of it, give it to me, I'll promise to take care of it as I have my stang, a daily driver which i keep looking as good as possible despite the daily grind
way to give up and screw up something so many would love to have
