Gas cap ????????

Stupid question here........Is it possible to run a siphon hose down the filler neck on modern cars like my Mustang GT and my '04 Silverado? With gas at almost 4 bucks i'm sure it's going to be a daily event somewhere. If it is possible to suck the gas out with a rubber hose maybe locking gas caps would be a good deterent. Thanks

It could probably be done, but I think it'd be difficult since the inlet to the tank has a sort of P-trap, AKA design flaw.

I thought I read somewhere that a few years ago American vehicles had to use filler necks that was hard or impossible to get a hose in it. I could have dreamed it too.

Hey, and aren't new Ford cars coming out with capless fuel tanks? How easy is it going to be to siphon then and no locking cap either!!

Just filled up the wife's Grand Cherokee (4.7 V8) to the tune of $46.00....locking gas cap went back on. We had taken it off when we moved back to South Dakota from Dallas/Ft Worth, but it seems gas thefts are up everywhere, especially drive offs at stations.

One thing I did read, the locking caps are only a stop gap for stupid thieves. Smart ( I use the term loosely) ones just crawl under the car/truck and use a center punch to put a hole in the tank and drain it....not real smart since a spark could fry them!

Just saw a story on the news last night about punks puncturing the gas tanks to steal gas. Dangerous stuff. I think the police should take the thugs out and puncture them with some 9mm slugs.

Locking gas cap is a cheap fix. I got mine a long time ago, any Ford parts dept. should have them in stock cheap.
