Ok, forgive me for my little rant here, it's just my marketing degree talking but I see a golden opportunity here for Ford to make some extra profit and make us enthusiasts happy at the same time. What do most Mustang owners do in the first few months that they have their new car. They mod them right??? Problem is these mods, especially performance mods, will void the factory warranty in most cases. Even some of the Ford Racing parts will void your warranty. Kind of stinks doesn't it... Well it doesn't have to be this way!!!

Other car makers are offering performance parts that don't void the factory warranty, TRD is one that comes to mind. Right now you can buy a supercharger for the new 4.5L V6 in the Tacoma that will push it to over 300hp. As long as the dealer installs it your warranty stays in effect!!! They also have headers and cat back exhaust as well as other parts. Scion also does it, most of their stuff is cosmetic but if they can do it so can Ford.

Ford could beef up the 4.6L 3V motor with forged internals, upgrade the drive train and then engineer parts to improve performance but not tax the motor/drive train in any way. The parts could be sold through Ford Racing and installed by the dealer without voiding the factory warranty. Parts such as high flow heads, superchargers, exhaust components, drive line parts and suspension pieces could all be optional dealer installed accessories and financed into the price of the car if the customer chooses. Yes all of this would cost Ford money but they would more than make it up with the extra income from not only selling the parts but the labor for installation as well.

Just think, you could go to your local Ford dealer and order your Mustang GT with GT40 high flow heads, complete exhaust, and maybe some springs. Have the cost of the parts/installation added to the price of the vehicle, put down your downpayment and finance the rest. All with out voiding your factory warranty!!!

Ok, I'm dreaming now.............time for me to go to bed.

Its called a lack of vision and effective planning, as well as always a step behind the market place. Its one reason Chevy and Ford are at or just above junk bond status. Always reactive, not proactive. I love my Mustang, but things could certainly be better.

If you go to FORD and buy FORD Racing parts and have them install it I thought your warranty was still valid.

No, any of the Ford racing parts will void your factory warranty even if the dealer installs them. I wanted the Ford Racing headers installed on mine and this was what I was told.

I'd be happy enough if they would just get quality control up to the point that she stays more in my garage than at the dealership

Yeah, you have a good point here. A co-worker just bought a Scion and there's all kinds of stuff you can get for that. Including a Supercharger that is covered by warrenty if the Dealer installs it for you.

Too bad Ford isn't doing something like this?

My Brother in law has an 04 Mach 1 and his dealer in Ga installed Ford Racing parts on his car and it is covered under his original warranty. The dealership just has to be a Team Ford dealer if I remember correctly. But the Mechanic Jeff even asked me when I was going to bring in my 05 to start modding it. So at least there is a dealer in Antlanta that will do it for you.

Think about this from an economics perspective. If you're modifying your car, more than likely you're also racing it. Racing while fun, damages parts. Sometimes expensive labor intensive parts. Unless you've been under a rock for the last 20 years, everyone knows people love to race Mustangs. There's no way this will ever happen.

Always nice to dream though!

Oh I know there is no way Ford would ever do some thing like this. I got a raft of crap when I asked my dealer to install Steeda springs on the 06 GT I'm going to be ordering. COME ON GUYS, IT'S JUST SPRINGS!!!! Not like I'm asking them to bolt on a supercharger or install some cams.
